Perry Mason
- Ozzy Osbourne Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And with one pull of the trigger he would vanish overnight
Dancing by the roadside, holding on for dear life
Then a gun from out of nowhere made a widow of his wife
I don't mind, single file down the runway
Feelin' fine and I see you, my friend
Over and over again
Who can we get on the case?
We need Perry Mason
Someone to put you in place
Calling Perry Mason again
Again
Riding painted horses, oh the kids they love it so
You can see it on their faces, how they love the wind to blow
Minding my own business like my mama always said
But if I don't try to help 'em they could wind up on the front page
I don't mind, draw the line, then draw me an arrow
Feelin' fine, then I'll see you, my friend
Over and over again
Who can we get on the case?
We need Perry Mason
Someone to put you in place
Calling Perry Mason again
Again
Wake me when it's over, tell me it's all right
Just keep on talking, baby, I've been doing this all night
How much did you give me, tell me it'll be all right
Then I'll see you, my friend
Over and over again
Who can we get on the case?
We need Perry Mason
Someone to put you in place
Calling Perry Mason again
Again, again, again
The song Perry Mason by Ozzy Osbourne is a story, which seems to be inspired by the popular courtroom drama TV series of the same name that aired from 1957 to 1966. The song begins with a scene where someone was on their way to dinner, but suddenly met with an unexpected event. He was shot dead, and his wife became a widow overnight. Later in the song, Ozzy talks about the need for Perry Mason, the well-known TV lawyer, who is famous for solving tricky cases and putting culprits in their place.
The song's chorus, "Who can we get on the case? We need Perry Mason, Someone to put you in place, Calling Perry Mason again," emphasizes the importance of having someone like him to get justice for oneself.
While some of the lines in the song are abstract and don't seem to fit in with the narrative, particularly lines such as, "I don't mind, single file down the runway", "Riding painted horses", "Minding my own business like my mama always said," we can interpret them as metaphors for various things. That being said, the song is open to interpretation, and listeners can relate to it in their own ways.

@Daniel Cox ...
Ozzy might have said many things to draw attraction towards his work. That's the entire point of "stars" giving interviews. ;]
Just look at the lyrics, 2nd verse:
"Riding painted horses
Oh the kids they love it so
You can see it on their faces
How they love the wind to blow "
and then:
"But if i don't try to help them
They could wind up on the front page"
The kids are shooting up / snorting balls / doing hash / whatever, and the protagonist is thinking that he should do something, otherwise they might end up as news items for the local papers.
Then the pre-chorus:
"I don't mind
Draw the LINE, then draw me an arrow
Feeling fine
And I'll see you my friend
Over and over again"
Ahem... COCAINE.... -_-
then, the last verse:
"...
I've been doing this all night
How much did you give me
Tell me it'll be all right"
Only the FIRST verse doesn't sound like it's about drugs at all.
So ok, I can admit that the song is not ENTIRELY about addiction. But a bigger part of is certainly IS... -_-

@BigBOB1975
Ozzy is like the yoda of metal, he walks in slowly with his cane, drops it, then proceeds to kick ass with ninja speed. Then picks up his cane and walks away like an old man again.
@ColtraneTaylor
These comments become more and more meaningless the more you see them.
