Breakdown
I can't take this
I need somewhere to go
I need you
I'm so restless
I don't know what to do

We've had our rough times
Fighting all night
And now you're just slipping away

Give me this chance
To make the wrongs right, to say:
Don't don't don't walk away

I promise
I won't let you down (down)
If you take my hand tonight
I promise
Well be just fine this time
If you take my hand tonight

Without you I go through the motions
Without you its just not quite the same
Without you I don't want to go out
I just want to say

That I'm sick of these fights
I'll let you be right
If it stops you from running away

Give me this chance
To make the wrongs right, to say:
Don't walk away

I promise
I won't let you down(down)
If you take my hand tonight
I promise
Well be just fine this time
If you take my hand tonight

Take my hand
Take my hand
I promise

Take my hand
I promise
Take my hand

I promise
I won't let you down(down)
If you take my hand tonight
I promise
Well be just fine this time
If you take my hand tonight

Take my hand tonight

I won't let you down
Take my hand tonight

Overall Meaning

In Simple Plan's song "Promise," the singer is feeling lost and restless, craving connection with someone specific. The person he is singing to seems to be slipping away, and the two have a history of fighting. However, the singer is pleading with them to stay, arguing that they can work things out if they just give him a chance to make things right. He promises that if they stay with him, he won't let them down, and they will be just fine.

The song captures the vulnerability of a relationship on the brink of falling apart. The singer is desperate to salvage what he has with this person and seems to be owning up to his mistakes. He just wants another chance to make things right and be with the person he cares about. The chorus is a simple but effective expression of his commitment to the relationship, promising to do better and holding out his hand in a gesture of connection and reassurance.

Overall, "Promise" is a touching and honest song that captures the emotional stakes of trying to hold onto a relationship, even when things seem to be falling apart. It's a reminder that even in the midst of difficult times, there's always hope for a better tomorrow if both parties are willing to work at it.

What an incredible trip down memory lane... Especially that guitar 🎸 solo at the end is just fucking awesome... Simple Plan one of the greatest rock bands in history without a doubt...

Recuerdo la primera vez que los escuché como si hubiese sido hace poco y sus canciones me alegran el día...

IMO one of the best pop/rock albums of the era. I don't care for their later stuff where they turned into a full on boy band, but the first two records are very powerful, heartfelt, & beautifully written.

Missing Since Monday

Absolutely love their first two albums. We play late 90s / early 2000s style pop punk just like this! Check us out if you have a minute :)

The third album is very heartfelt too, give it a try!

The newest album really reignites the heart and meaning behind their music. Give it a shot if you ever get the chance

This is the very first simple plan song I ever heard and I instantly loved their music. 8 1/2 year old me had good taste. I'm almost 19 and I still love simple plan. Yeah, they've aged well

Jovanne Keliste
