Flaming June
08. BT Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You pace a rhythm for
Love to evolve
It takes the clock off my heart
A strange vibration
That purifys my soul

dreamy days in my room
By your side as we bloom
Colors blend and fade
In cherished moments like these
The key to all the love I feel
Is in me
I can see
It is you
You give me everything I need
To believe
To be real
Flaming June

the summer winds have gotten hold of me
Like sugar cane 'round my heart
It touches sweet and tastes of softness I never had

dreamy days in my room
By your side as we bloom
Colors blend and fade
In cherished moments like these
The key to all the love I feel
Is in me
I can see
It is you
You give me everything I need
To believe

To be real
Flaming June

One simply cannot deny the fact that trance/techno in the '90s and early '00s are some of the best for electronic music.

@tomate_muller

Totally agree. Age of gold.

@jssekyl

25 years later and this track aged like fine wine. Beautiful. I was four years old when this track dropped. I'm sad to have missed the scene at it's peak but feel lucky to have grown up with this music.

@ishtube

this song made me to listen electronic music when I was 16. Still my favourite. The 2nd favourite actually. 1st is BT- Mercury and Solace.

@joshuahelmeke

Yep, mercury and solace is what got me into the scene.

So this one is actually crazy. Actually really crazy to have come out in 1997. The sound design in particular puts it leagues ahead of anything else coming out that era. The filtering and layering was years ahead of where everyone was at at the time. There's even a stutter edit on the acid riff on the opening breakbeat segment. I don't think we even knew what a stutter edit was back then.

Having listened to both BT and PVD then and now, for over 25 years I can pretty much pinpoint who did what and where. I get the impression the main melody was conceived by PvD (yeah I've read the interview where Brian takes full credit for it, but artists always like to embellish) that BT did rendition of it on a flute or recorder to give it a more 'organic' feel. Pretty much the core track was probably most PvD, but Brian went in and did some extremely intricate and extensive sound redesign on, added acoustic guitar strumming, and composed an elaborate breakbeat intro and D&B outro because BT is BT and he wouldn't just do a 'straight' trance track. Either way there was definitely a statement being made going into this track because it definitely, to this day, doesn't sound like it has aged one bit as many of these production techniques are still being used today. Just imagine painstakingly doing that by hand without any of today's automated processes back in '97 .

Actually the whole ESCM album changed the scene for many years to come: you get that melting point of breaks, D&B and Trance that Paul Oakenfold mirrored his own sets at the time (NY Global Underground came one year later), stutter edits became huge in everything from pop music to electro and dubstep, and still used nowadays by trance producers such as Andy Moor, and even made an unknown singer by the name of Jan Johnston a household name in the Trance/House scene, as every producer, DJ and record label back then wanted her, and whose singing career is still going to this day . ESCM isn't just an album of the time, it's a sacred and holy relic that has served as musical blueprint for decades to come.
