Serenade in Blue
101 Strings Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I hear that Serenade in blue
I'm somewhere in another world, alone with you
Sharing all the joys we used to know
Many moons ago

Once again your face comes back to me
Just like the theme of some forgotten melody
In the album of my memory
Serenade in blue

It seems like only yesterday
The small cafe, a crowded floor
And as we danced the night away
I hear you say forever more
And then the song became a sigh
Forever more became goodbye
'Cause you remained in my heart, but

Tell me darling in there still a spark?
Or only lonely ashes of the flame we knew

Should I go on whistling in the dark
Serenade in blue

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to 101 Strings' song "Rhapsody in Blue" describes the nostalgic feeling of hearing the familiar tune of the Serenade in Blue, which takes the singer back to an old memory of being with a past love. The song evokes the sentimentality of the past as the singer recalls the joys they shared with their partner in a small café, dancing the night away. The lyrics attempt to reach out to the lost love as he asks if there is still a spark left between them or has the flame died out, leaving only lonely ashes. The nostalgic Serenade in Blue echoes the sentiment of reliving the past and wanting to rekindle lost love.

My mom had some 101 Strings albums back in the early 60's - I was about 10 and would lay down in front of the record console and listen to them. It was real special - those early days in Texas.

LOVE it, Jim!! I love this song...first heard it by Glenn Miller and fell instantly in love with it. This version is fabulous, too, and all your pictures are great--especially the photo of lovely Ms. Sheridan in the place of honor! Thanks so much for sharing! :))

I'm so glad you liked it, Heather! Yes, I have always loved the original by Mr. Miller's Orchestra, with Ray Eberle singing the lyrics. A classic, for sure! There will be a place of honor for Ms. Sheridan in my video's whenever I can. Thank you so much for watching and have a Wonderful week, my Friend! Jim
