Miscellanea
10 Years Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I set the mood that tingles in you
You've got the womb I love to intrude
Well disguise the blushing bride
Apple of my eye
Inviting virus you amuse, so make your move

Running faster
You're on your own

Clue by clue, odds are aiming at you
Can you take the tune when your fate is in bloom?
Sleight of hand has made a mess
Let us lay to rest
Screaming sirens sing the blues
We play to lose

Running faster
You're on your own
Chasing the dragon

We made our saving grace Christ to sell
When there's hell to pay, who gets the bell?
Now you're in limbo, searching for a loophole
But you gave up the ghost long ago
You gave up the ghost long ago

Running faster
You're on your own
Chasing the dragon

Shadows in sheep's clothes
Lead us to the gallows
But you gave up the ghost long ago
(I'd rather sink than swim)
You gave up the ghost long ago

(I'd rather sink than swim)
Gave up the ghost long ago

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of 10 Years's song "Miscellanea" seem to explore the theme of temptation and ultimately the consequences that come with it. The first verse creates a sense of sexual tension and danger, with the singer setting the mood and the listener having a "womb" that they love to intrude. The second verse talks about the odds being aimed at the listener and asks if they can handle it, with the reference to "chasing the dragon" possibly alluding to drug addiction. The bridge portrays the idea of selling out something sacred or meaningful (in this case, Christ) to avoid the punishment of one's actions. The final lines of the song suggest that the listener is aware of the risk they are taking and has given up the fight a long time ago, even though they still cling to a small hope of finding a way out.

One interesting fact about this song is that it was the first single from the band's second studio album, "Division", released in 2008. Another is that "miscellanea" is a term commonly used to refer to a collection of various unrelated items or facts, which could be interpreted as a reference to the song's scattered themes. The line "shadows in sheep's clothes" could be a play on the idiom "wolves in sheep's clothing", meaning dangerous individuals pretending to be harmless. The song's tempo and instrumentation create a sense of urgency and unease that matches the lyrics' tone. The religious references present in the song are a recurring theme in 10 Years's work, as they often explore issues of spirituality and belief. The phrase "make your move" in the first verse hints at a possible manipulation or seduction taking place. The repetition of the line "running faster, you're on your own", along with the aggressive guitar riffs, convey a sense of danger and urgency. The ending refrain of "I'd rather sink than swim" suggests a resignation to one's fate and an acceptance of punishment or failure.

Chords:

Verse: Em, D, Am, C

Really aren't too many bands putting lyrics out as deep as 10 years.

Campy Camel

Very underrated band.

Ryan D

Most accurate comment on all of YouTube.

Danny Vesper

Shouldn't have shit on the founding members...

Brett Wilson

So very true.

Even more underrated album. The people I know who are fans all said the last two were their least favorites. I love this Era of their music. It's a punch in the face. Dark, aggressive; a side of them we never saw enough of. His voice when he says "chasing the dragon", the rawness there! Love love LOVE this album.

Guns_N_Duff_Rose

Flexo / I live in Indiana, and I have only met person who knows who they are. And I literally NEVER hear them on any local radio stations... EVER. Makes me sad.
