Shelter
10 Years Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Please savior of here
Give me shelter from fear
I need answers to this
Crazy world that's so mixed
With this pain that leaves us
Lifeless and so dead-souled
We all need to break this mold
I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love
I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love

Drips hit the floor, who cares at all

Flesh sheared and torn, sleaves hide remorse
Stardom branded skin, traps pain within
Expectations, never reaching

I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love
I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love

I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love

I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all
What's so wrong, you claim to call this love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in 10 Years' song "Shelter" delve into the themes of fear, pain, and confusion in the face of the chaos and darkness in the world. The singer is pleading with a savior figure, asking for protection and guidance through the trials and tribulations of life. The first few lines capture the essence of this plea, as the singer begs the savior for shelter from the fear that plagues them.

The next few lines convey the despair and hopelessness that permeate the singer's worldview. The pain they experience leaves them feeling lifeless and "dead-souled," and they long to break free from the mold that society has imposed on them. The repetition of the lines "I'm so sure, you'll blame me for this all / What's so wrong, you claim to call this love" underscore the singer's feelings of guilt and shame, as if they are responsible for the world's troubles and are being blamed for them.

The last two lines, "Drips hit the floor, who cares at all / Flesh sheared and torn, sleeves hide remorse," are graphic and unsettling, driving home the physical and emotional pain that the singer feels. The image of blood dripping on the floor suggests a loss of life or vitality, while the reference to "sleeves hiding remorse" implies that the singer is hiding their pain and shame from the world.

Overall, "Shelter" is a powerful meditation on the darker aspects of the human experience, and the struggle to find hope and meaning in a world rife with suffering and confusion.

They are still a great band today, but their earlier music was so beautiful and inspirational.

Gherica Dunbar

Absolutely 💯😏

Justin Morrissey

I kind of agree I have seen them live like 6 times at this point their music was darker back and had soul..Now they still have soul but more mellowed out.

@Justin Morrissey it’s absolutely amazing how often that happens to bands I love. I could think of several just off the top of my head: 10 Years, Metallica, Staind (although their last album was a fantastic return to form), Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, and Shinedown just to name a few.
