I'm Mandy Fly Me
10cc Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just like a rollin' stone
I'm outside lookin' in
But if your chance came would you take it
Where on earth do I begin
I'm Mandy fly me

I've often heard her jingle
It's never struck a chord
With a smile as bright as sunshine
She called me through the poster
And welcomed me aboard
She led me she fed me
She read me like a book
But I'm hiding in the small print
Won't you take another look
And take me away
Try me Mandy fly me away

The world was spinning like a ball
And then it wasn't there at all
And as my heart began to fall

I saw her walking on the water
As the sharks were comin' for me
I felt Mandy pull me up give me the kiss of life
Just like the girl in Dr. No No No No

Ah when they pulled me from the wreckage
And her body couldn't be found
Was it in my mind it seems
I had a crazy dream
I told them so but they said no no no no

I found me on a street
And starin' at a wall
If it hadn't have been for Mandy
Her promise up above me
Well I wouldn't be here at all
So if you're travellin' in the sky

Don't be surprised if someone said Hi
I'm Mandy fly me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of 10cc's song "I'm Mandy Fly Me" can be interpreted in many different ways. The song is about a man who is disconnected from the world, observing from the outside as life goes on around him. He wonders if he will ever have the opportunity to take a chance and be a part of it all. He is then introduced to Mandy, who beckons him through a poster with her bright smile and welcomes him aboard. She leads him on a whirlwind journey through life, reading him like a book and feeding him with her knowledge. However, the man is stuck in the small print, afraid to take another look and truly embrace life. After a wild ride, Mandy saves him from the sharks and gives him the kiss of life, symbolically bringing him back to life. The man then reflects on whether Mandy was real or just a figment of his imagination, but ultimately concludes that she saved him and gave him the promise of life.

The lyrics of "I'm Mandy Fly Me" can be interpreted in many different ways because they are intentionally vague and surreal. The song was written during a time when the band members were experimenting with psychedelic drugs and surrealistic art. However, the song is also a reflection of the band's experiences in the fast-paced world of the music industry, where they were constantly traveling and performing. The character of Mandy symbolizes the muse, the force that inspires and guides artists on their creative journey. In this way, the song can also be interpreted as a meditation on the creative process and the struggle to stay connected to one's art in the face of distractions and obstacles.

So beautiful. I grew up with all these bands. 10CC reminds me of the long hot summers of 75/76 and gazing into the blue sky singing "I'm Not In Love" . As with all of these brilliant bands, we loved the music but took their excellence for granted. We always thought that it would be this good. Little did we know.

God how I miss those days, heartbreaking when you think we had all those superb days, and now all we've got in this mad WORLD is MEMORIES.

@@andymatthews7617 guess that’s the way life goes, we all miss these wonderful things. I was completely enchanted at the concert and I hope this impression lasts for a long time. Hope you are fine.🍀

@@andymatthews7617 You’re welcome, it’s very kind of you to answer me. I‘m fine too thank you. Have you been able to experience 10cc live? It was truly a great experience and I will never forget. Mr. Gouldman is 77 years old! Great concert two weeks ago.😊

@andymatthews7617

No probs, no unfortunately I never saw them live, another of lifes disappointments, you wouldn't happen to know anybody with a time machine, wouldn't that be fantastic, to go back and experience all the great bands you missed first time around, I suppose were lucky we've got you tube though.

Those guitar solos are the most underrated solos in rock history. Melodic yet technical without being pretentious. Absolute genius.

@andymatthews7617

A BRILLIANT BAND.

@jedward5155

@timbetts3647

@@jedward5155 sums them up.
