13 ENGINES Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can feel something inside
And it wants to get out
Growing every day in a different way
I can't put it in words
It could be now or maybe later
It can read my mind

I've pretended not to notice
What's been happening inside
But as the days go drifting buy
I can deny it no more
Ihear a voice, getting louder
It calls my name
And it wants more

Well, once you've learned, once and for all
This is nothing new
The rest is easy, I'm sure that you'll see
It belongs to you
It may be silent or may be too loud

But it's hear to stay
And it wants more

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the 13 ENGINES's song "More" reveal a sense of inner restlessness and an impending desire for self-discovery. The singer describes a sensation that grows within them "in a different way," that they find difficult to express in words, but it could no longer be ignored. The feeling is persistent, and it's a part of the singer's being since it can read their mind. The lyrics suggest that this sense of longing and seeking for more is innate to human nature, and it's something that everyone experiences at some point.

The singer tries to ignore this feeling, but as time passes, it becomes increasingly apparent. The voice, which is a metaphor for the internal desire, becomes louder and starts calling the singer's name. The desire wants more and is impossible to ignore. The lyrics then take a positive turn, suggesting that once the singer understands that the feeling is inherent and not something they need to fear, the rest is easy. The sense of longing and desire is a part of them and can be embraced.

Overall, the lyrics of "More" express the complexity of human emotions, particularly the desire for self-discovery and the internal struggle to accept oneself. The lyrics suggest that accepting oneself is an important step towards fulfilling one's potential and finding peace within themselves.

I have the album previous to this one. I have it on cassette tape. Remember those? I'm 58 and still have loads of them, prerecorded and ones I recorded myself. This band was damn good and deserved a much longer shelf life.

Cosmic Heretic

One of the most underated bands of the great Canadian 90's acts. I was blessed to be in my prime for bands like this.

Misguided Angel

Me too, I saw 13 engines live atleast 15-20X

I'm an American in Niagara falls, thank God for you Canadians, music and women. Thanks for the post.

captainthrowback

At the time of bands like this, and the above mentioned, along with the east coast bands coming out like Sloan, it was almost like a Canadian invasion. There has never been a prosperous era for Canadian music, than at this time.

I saw 13 engines many times but one time they played with The Tea Party & Blind Melon, was a great night

Canada really kicked ass in the 90's with bands like 13 Engines,Rusty,Sloan,I Mother Earth,The Tea Party,Age of Electric,Limblifter,Big Sugar,Grady,Big Wreck,Thornley,54-40,Out Of Your Mouth,Our Lady Peace,Econoline Crush,Wide Mouth Mason,Annihilator,Voivod,Treble Charger,Killjoys,Northern Pikes,Pursuit of Happiness,Moist,The Grapes Of Wrath,Junkhouse,Matthew Good Band,The Watchmen,Sandbox,The Gandharvas,Glueleg,Cowboy Junkies,Slowburn,Salmonblaster,The Inbreds,Pluto,Monster Voodoo Machine,The Headstones,BOB,D.O.A.Tragically Hip,Eric's Trip,Etc. I miss the 90's with a HUGE PASSION. But with me being born in March of 1977 the 90's were also my hay day i guess you could say & very special to me with these Canadian bands i mentioned & growing up in a very small town called St.Marys,Ontario which is just 45mins from London & 15mins from Stratford. I got to see a lot of those Canadian bands i listed in London,Kitchener,Windsor,Toronto. & I seen 13 Engines in Stratford at a high school which was really cool.
