Their Satanic Majesty's Request is without question one of the most underrated and misunderstood albums of all time. Truly a legendary top tier masterwork of psychedelic rock 'n roll excess in high level cerebral doses at it's uttermost purest and fitnest form.

@HAL 9000 The Beatles were trendsetters as everybody knows. In the sixties they created a musical and cultural shockwave with their musical genius and out-of-the-box approach to post modern music and the way they presented themselves with their quirky hairstyle and clothing. I was a schoolboy when "Love me do", "I wanna Hold Your Hand", "Please Please Me"and many other songs were released. They surprised me and the world experimenting with mellotron, brass instruments and experimental production methods. Strawberry Fields was such example. In 1967 I think Revolver was also released, with the epic song "Tomorrow Never Knows". My favourite albums of the Beatles are Please Please Me, Help, Revolver, and Rubber Soul.

The Beatles influenced an entire generation of musicians, among others The Byrds from the US. Just listen to songs "I See You", "It Won´t Be Wrong", "I Know My Rider", "She Don't Care About Time", "Here Without You". Also numerous (psychedelic) rock bands have been influenced by the Beatles. sorry, quite a lenghty answer, but I'm an old fart who (musically) experienced the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties very consciously. I am still finding great bands from all over the world though, thanks to Youtube. Have a nice day amigo.

@HAL 9000 Ah, after all these years I forget correct dates. No I am not from the USA. I was born in New Guinea (at the bottom of Australia) my parents emigrated to the Netherlands where I did my education, lived and worked. In 1969 I went to Spain to work as a disc jocky in a discotheque for almost 3 years. Then left for Sweden for a year and 7 months in the UK. Went back to the Netherlands where I met my wife.

In 2002 I emigrated with wife and two children to the Costa Blanca in Spain where I still live and enjoy life as a retiree since 2017. Our adult children live in The Netherlands and France, so there is enough time to enjoy music, among other things. Time is on my side, that explains my lenghty respons☺

One of the great cuts from Satanic Majesty's . Shows that the Stones are as capable of "pushing the envelope" as anyone else , if you know what I mean. I remember when this album came out (Xmas of 1967) and how fascinated we all were by the artworkon the covers. There are so many details to see, especially while "under the influence" of the then so popular green leaves. Same month that Donovan's Gift from a Flower to a Garden came out. That was a great period to live through and I am so glad I was able to live through it.

I got the 45 “ She’s A Rainbow” for Christmas in 1967. This was the B side, and it mesmerized my 12 year old brain. Almost better in mono, more punch. The mellotron, relatively new to the music scene in 1967 is used to great effect here.

I bought this when it first came out. Coming right after Sgt. Pepper, it seemed to be imitative, but darker and spookier and weirder and second-rate. But me and my friends loved 4/5 of it and wore it out. As psychedelia became a distant memory, this album continued to please and fascinate where so many other psychedelic projects ended up sounding like dried up fossils from another area. Here it is, almost 2020, and I'm still getting spooked and drawn in by The Lantern and 2,000 light years from home. Satanic Majesties is a gem that keeps getting rediscovered.

This is the first time I have ever seen this song, until now. The creators of the visual song playing in unison with the lyrics have great talent beyond their beautiful ability to draw, use colors, and designs. The Moog synth was being used then as well.. like w/no manual, flying by the seat of your pants discovery fun. But I'm not entirely sure. A lot of knob twiddling though. That's for sure.

I got to see The Stones perform this song on the Steel Wheels tour in 1989 at Veterans Stadium (RIP) in Philly. I was 19 years old, and it was 1st time seeing the Rolling Stones live. Living Colour opened the show. I never thought that I would hear this song or Dead Flowers. Great memories 🙂

This album seemed like the natural sequence of creativity for the Rolling Stones. It was an experiment and psychedelic world with Timothy Leary being the Guru of LSD. Somehow the band needed to make this off the beaten track album. It should be treasured as a part of their portfolio. But right afterwards they returned to their Blues genera with Prodigal Son, the Trip home was greeted by the killing of the fatted calf by us their fans.

I don't know who put all these great moving shadowbox videos together over the last 2-3 years but their freaking GREAT! These add so much more texture and visuals to one of the greatest panned albums in the past 50 years. Someone put a lot of thought and time in the art work, thank you!! This little psychedelic number was beyond the norm of say 'Sgt Pepper' with it's sterile studio songs. This is truly just what the trippy hippies wanted in an out of mind and body experience rolled in to one. Brilliant lyrics, great melodies, and yes, even insightful druggy gnomes of wisdom..? I now have at least 12 copies of the original kaleidoscope cover in storage. Bravo Stones for your thought provoking style and risk you took, cause the next 6 albums are truly your swan songs despite what the critics said about this one. Remember this, No Jones, No Stones! :)

one of the best melodies and lyrics/vocals from the psychodelic era in music. this song almost bests everything from the jefferson airplane, grace slick edition, et al!, esp sargeant peppers. pretty cool after all these years too. the band must have loved cutting these tracks; led by brian jones. so much fun.

I saw the Stones in El Paso, Texas. A big concert for a small city! The sound was totally professional. My favorite all time band. I've sing their songs with bands including "Brown Sugar"! MR. LALA EP on You Tube.

Brian Jones presence is strongly felt with this superlative musical delivery. This number certainly distances itself from the claims that Satanic Majesties is anywhere near The Beattles' Sgt Pepper. Rolling Stones were way more far out then the Beatles were in 1967.

song. Always loved songs during Brian's tenure but as I was becoming a teenager, I loved the Mick Taylor and Keith's dope era better. Now I just adore the Stones from a distance. Refusing to pay thousands of $s to see them live Same songs pretty much every concert. Hope they finally get a decent album out. Wouldn't that be wonderful! Even if it is so so, I will always believe bin the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World 🤗♥️

Charlie and Brian knock it out of the park on this album. The lyrics/themes seem more futuristic/existential than psychedelic. Guitar tone works! Kinda garage band grunge. lol

The album was The Stones reaction to The Beatles Sgt. Pepper. That being said, this is a great psychedelic album, in fact great anything album. I actually have it on my Top 10 list of all time greatest albums. Nothing against Mick Taylor or Ron Wood, but The Stones were just so great (and relevant) with Brian Jones!

Re- This being a reaction to Pepper Yes and No. Yes from a album cover perspective and build around a quirky theme. (Jagger all the way) But people forget that the Stones recorded many tracks before Pepper was released. Stones started recording tracks in Feb 67 and Pepper wasnèt released until May 26, 67. She A Rainbow was in the can in early May 67. The Pepper sessions were also very secretive and no sense was given to outside world what they were up to. Also remember thatthe Stones Between the Buttons album had more of a Peppers feel and that was released in Jan 67 with recording occuring from Aug 66 to Dec 66. Tracks like Ruby Tuesday, Night Together, Connection, Smiled Sweetly all have a Psychedelic rock feel, so the Stones were already there before Pepper. (take it back further with Aftermath) Key here is Brian. He was adding different intruments and layers long ago. So enough of the Pepper rip off slag on the music itself

Listen to the whole album! Discovered it in 1977 on the 10th anniversary of it's release. 2,000 Light Years was saved from the Olympic Studio shelf by Brian Jones who with Glyn Johns added the spacey sound made possible by his mastery of the mellotron. As much as he and the others panned the album. Aside from his usual intake of chemicals, he was also on a soundtrack buzz from "A Degree of Murder" which allowed plenty of fiddling about the studio with exotic instruments. He rescued this song and has made it unique & timeless for all time.
