The band performed in the local college scene traveling up and down the coast looking for gigs to play. After the band recorded some demos with Jerry Harrison, a former member of the Talking Heads and Modern Lovers, 2AM Club played a now-legendary four month residency they called "Tiny Porno" at the Derby in Los Angeles, and word quickly spread that it was the place to be. They played the school's band during the Pretty Little Liars episode "There's No Place Like Homecoming", performing "Worry About You" and "Make You Mine" among others.

Seen me from the other side, so free
In the back of my mind, made me
Wanna be a better man
I wonder what you see in me, only
You're 23 to be, lonley
Livin' out your memory, makes me
[Chorus]
Yeah, someday in my future
In places I ain't never been
Places I ain't never been
Yeah, it'll take some gettin' used to
Dearly forever skies, show me
How to live a better life, hold me
A peasant in the storyline, makes me
Wanna be a better man
I wonder what I should've seen, boldly
Livin' after you're released, coldly
There's a story to tell, yeah I know you were
You made me into a man
[Chorus]
I take a look at (?), watchin' what I say
I'm lockin' up my plans, and auctions for my days
I got to be the man, I want to be the way
I ought to be is how, you want me to behave
So hey, I put my pants on, one leg at a time
In the back of my mind, you're watchin' me from behind
The moment I take a step, a step across the line
Nothing we're gonna talk, I'm just waitin' for the time
Dearly departed, know me
Seen me from the other side, so free
In the back of my mind, made me
Wanna be a better man
I wonder what you see in me, only
You're 23 to be, lonley
Livin' out your memory, makes me
Wanna be a better man
[Chorus]
Being there, in places I ain't never been
Places I ain't never been
But I'll be with you
I'll be with you, babe
The lyrics of the song Dearly Departed by 2AM Club seem to be about a deceased loved one who still has an impact on the singer. The phrase "dearly departed" refers to a person who has passed away. The lyrics suggest that even after death, the deceased may still be watching over the singer and influencing his behavior. The singer speaks directly to the person, expressing his desire to be a better man because of their influence.
In the second verse, the lyrics become more introspective as the singer reflects on the impact the person had on their life. They wonder what they could have done differently and express regret for not fully appreciating them while they were alive. The chorus repeats the phrase "someday in my future, in places I ain't never been" which could mean that the person is still guiding the singer towards new experiences even in death. The final lines of the song suggest that the singer is comforted by the idea of being with the person again in the afterlife.
Overall, the lyrics of Dearly Departed explore themes of remembrance, regret, and the impact that loved ones can have even after they are gone. The song is a poignant tribute to those who continue to influence our lives long after they have passed away.
