Black Starry Night
2Pac Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Against all odds, I'm still here n****
Aiyyy, I got to get my props for 2Pacalypse
O.P.D. -- what??!
When this album come out, n****z can kiss my a**
Did you think I'd fall?
You think you could stop a motherf***er like me?
Introducing you to my criminal crew
Treach, A.D., Apache, Essential
You got to deal with me on a whole new level motherf***er
Above the Law, Lench Mob, the Underground
Cause I'm gettin paid
Gets around and we down in this b****
And the more you try to keep n****z away from me
The more I unite with mo' n****z and mo' n****z and mo' n****z
Extra special thanks to my n**** Big John Major
And it's a ghetto in every city and a n**** in every ghetto
I owe him, thanks to my man Mike Cooley and the rest of out fathers

Motherf***er we are unstoppable
And uhh, I'm not goin alive!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to 2Pac's "Black Starry Night" are a proclamation of defiance and a celebration of resilience against all odds. The opening line, "Against all odds, I'm still here n****," sets the tone for the rest of the song, boldly declaring that despite any challenges or obstacles, 2Pac is still standing. He acknowledges his position as a prominent figure in the rap game ("Aiyyy, I got to get my props for 2Pacalypse") and asserts that he will not be silenced or held back by anyone ("Did you think I'd fall? You think you could stop a motherf***er like me?").

In the second verse, he introduces his "criminal crew" of Treach, A.D., Apache, and Essential, and announces that anyone trying to stand in his way will have to deal with all of them. He also references other influential rap groups like Above the Law, Lench Mob, and the Underground, cementing his place among them. Despite any attempts to keep him down, 2Pac declares that he will only become stronger by uniting with others.

Ultimately, the song is a declaration of unstoppable determination and a refusal to be silenced or held back by anyone. It is a testament to the resilience and determination of not only 2Pac but also the entire hip-hop community.

In The Drone

Nowhere to run I'm in terror and no one cares
A closed casket at my funeral and no one's there
Is there a future for a killer? I change my ways
But still that don't promise me the next day

I remember being in the Army when this double album came out. I had this song on repeat. I thought it was so visual. I was like... " this was a throw a way song? "
