sister
2gether Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've always told me
If I ever want to live
If I find a better girl
Someone who lets me breathe
That you wouldn't stand in my way
Oh girl, I never meant to break your heart
I, I promise you
I didn't know, oh no
She was your sister
Sister
What could I do
She is so dope, oh yeah
I couldn't resist her
Your little sister
And who would've thought
She's really that young
Unlike you, kisses good with her tongue
Oh please don't stand in my way
I guess it really doesn't matter if
If I break your heart
I, I promise you
I didn't know, oh no
She was your sister
Sister
What could I do
She is so dope, oh yeah
I couldn't resist her
Your little sister
How, oh how could I know
How could he know
How could he know
How
I really, really didn't know
I, I promise you
I didn't know, oh no
She was your sister
Sister
What could I do
She is so dope, oh yeah
I couldn't resist her
Your little sister
I, I promise you
I didn't know, oh no
She was your sister
Sister
What could I do
She is so dope, oh yeah
I couldn't resist her
Your little sister

What? How old is she anyway?
Sister

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to 2gether's song "Sister" tell a story of a man who falls in love with his partner's younger sister, not knowing she was related to his partner. The opening lines show that his partner had given him permission to leave her if he found someone he preferred being with, someone who lets him be himself, and that she wouldn't stand in his way. However, when he falls for her younger sister, he realizes how much he has hurt his partner and promises her that he didn't know that the girl he was seeing was her sister. The lyrics go on to acknowledge how young she is and that she is different from his partner as she kisses well with her tongue. At the end of the song, the man pleads with his partner not to stand in his way even though he has broken her heart, and he promises that he didn't know that she was her sister.
