There is a certain kind of music that is impossible to forget about again once you listened to it for the first time. Within seconds, it takes a certain place in your heart, triggering certain emotions... and from then on keeps staying in those emotional charts for a long time, if not forever.
There are only a few acts who can do that sort of magic with their music. 3-11 Porter from Oslo / Norway surely is one of those exceptions. Per Arne Berthussen, Svein Hansen and songstress Tracee Lewis Meyn have that „certain something“, wisely embedded in their music as an organical part of it. 3-11 Porter sound comes mature, intriguingly reflective and open for imagination at any point.
Introspective pop music? Not the worst starting point indeed to describe the sounds of a band heavily influenced by the works of Roxy Music, The Stranglers, The Smiths and Tom Waits as well as by Blues, Folk and „classic“ film scores.
The 3-11 Porter song "Surround Me With Your Love“ is part of the soundtrack to the new Hollywood movie "Fireflies in the garden“ which is starring Julia Roberts and William Dafoe.
The song: "Surround Me With Your Love" is also used in the soundtrack for:

Neon Lights
3-11 Porter Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Neon lights remind me of your lucky number, was it five?
Seven reasons on my mind
Sixteen years and more to come
If love remains am I the one
Neon lights remind me of the streets we used to walk
And our conversations without saying you meant more
Leave me in the morning when fear has gone
And if you remain I'm the one
Neon lights remind me of those things we used to do
Neon lights remind me whatever happened to the ones we knew
Seven memories caught in blue
Seven faces seven you
If I remain its because of you
The song "Neon Lights" by 3-11 Porter is a melancholic yet nostalgic reflection on the past, with neon lights serving as a recurring symbol of memories that continue to illuminate the present. At the beginning of the song, the neon lights are associated with the passage of time, prompting the singer to recall their past relationship and wonder if they are the one who still carries a torch for their past lover. The song then segues into reminiscing about the streets they once walked and the conversations they had that contained a deeper meaning beyond the words spoken. The singer asks their lover to take them on one more walk through the night before they inevitably part ways.
The second verse continues with the theme of nostalgia and the passing of time. The neon lights are now connected to the things they used to do together and the people they knew. The singer references seven memories that are caught in blue, which could be interpreted as a reference to both the mood of the song and the color often used in neon lights. The singer then addresses their lover directly, asking if they are the one who remains in their thoughts and in their heart.
Overall, the song encapsulates the bittersweet feeling of looking back on the past and realizing that some memories will always be illuminated, even as time goes by.
