Kryptonite
3 Doors Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time
But I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there's nothing I can do, yeah

I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
After all I knew, it had to be something to do with you
I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end

If I go crazy, then will you still call me Superman?
If I'm alive and well, will you be there and holding my hand?
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite

You called me strong, you called me weak
But still your secrets, I will keep
You took for granted all the times, I never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head
If not for me then you'd be dead
I picked you up and put you back on solid ground

If I go crazy, then will you still call me Superman?
If I'm alive and well, will you be there and holding my hand?
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite

If I go crazy, then will you still call me Superman?
If I'm alive and well, will you be there holding my hand?
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite, yeah
If I go crazy, then will you still call me Superman?
If I'm alive and well, will you be there and holding my hand?
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite

Whoa, whoa, whoa

Whoa, whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa, whoa

Overall Meaning

The song "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down is a track about a person who has gone on a journey to escape their problems and troubles but still finds themselves affected by what's happening in the world. The opening lines suggest detachment from reality as the person states that they decided to take a walk around the world in order to escape their troubled mind and leaving their body behind in the sands of time. The world is described as floating to the dark side of the moon, a metaphor for the troubles and difficult times we often encounter in life. The singer feels helpless in the face of these issues and imply that their problems have something to do with the person they are addressing in the song, asking if they will be there for him when things get too tough.

The chorus is the most memorable part of the song, as the singer asks the person they are addressing if they will still be there for them if they go crazy. They go on to display a vague connection to Superman's strength and are asking for the person to be there for them no matter what. They then ask for someone to be by their side during difficulties in life and also suggest that they will use their own strength and power to help others, even if they don't feel powerful themselves. The conclusion of the song repeats the question of whether someone will still be with them even if they lose their mind.

Serious question: Why did this music just go away? Alternative rock from the 90s to around mid 2000s was amazing, and it just seemingly died overnight. People would still listen to music like this now.

@jgg204

I don't know, it's a shame. Seems the shift started beginning in 2010......this type of music just started evaporating

@jhoviillee

Great question. Every generation creating their own taste I guess. I agree. I grew up on heavy metal and alternative rock. They're like no other. I even just recently discovered Ramstein and The Hu, and I am over the moon! I have a feeling this genre will come back right around the bend. Hopefully sooner than later.

@ridwanap6166

Im still loving this kind of music, but most people now dont

@Haltzo

@@jhoviillee This genre will never die, im just waiting for some new great band to pop up 😄

@charlesmonroe7151

i did not go away, they just dont promote it anymore. If you look you can find plenty of bands like this i guess. But it is the nostalgia i think that makes you stuck with this songs.

This was a special song between my dad and me. He died last year Sept. 2. The day before his funeral, I drove to the cemetery to see exactly where the service would be the next day. (It’s a large military cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.) As I drove in, this song came on the radio, and it felt like him finding a way to reach out to me. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him.

@blackheart456

I thank him for his Service 🙏.
I'm so sorry.

Sorry for your loss
