They released several singles in the mid 1970s, but did not achieve success until radio stations began playing the B Side to their single "Bye Love". The song "I'm On Fire" was then released in its own right and became a major hit throughout Europe, peaking at number 4 on the British charts. It also charted well in the United States where it reached number 26. Though Charles provided the vocals, she was not at the time publicly acknowledged as the group's singer. The publicity surrounding the revelation of this information gave her solo career a boost.
Subsequent group singles failed to attract widespread interest, although the group became very popular in Germany. On the eve of a German tour, Charles left the group after a dispute with their record company, continuing on with her successful solo career. She was replaced by vocalist Linda Kelly. The next single "Doctor Kiss Kiss" reached number 8 in the UK but the band struggled to maintain public interest. As further releases failed to find an audience the group disbanded.
Jay launched a solo career without success , and eventually returned to his earlier role as a session musician working for such bands as Enigma and Tight Fit.
Take Me Back
5000 Volts Lyrics

Where the friends I knew all seem so far away
All the bright lights here are gone
Only morning lingers on
Take me back to the land where I belong
Take me back
Take me back
It's a lonesome road to travel on your own
Lonely people try and hide
All their secrets deep inside
Take me back to the land where I belong
There's a bell ringing out across to me
In the valley all my friends wait patiently
Couldn't find my vale of dreams
So I'm calling to them please
Take me back to the land where I belong
Take me back
Take me back
Take me home
It's a lonesome road to travel on your own
Lonely people try and hide
All their sadness deep inside
Take me back to the land where I belong
I'll be free
Take me back to the land where I belong.
The lyrics of "Take Me Back" by 5000 Volts expresses a longing for a place where one can find solace, comfort, and peace. The singer reminisces about a valley where the sun always shines, and friends are nearby. He refers to the present as a bleak and lonely place where one has to hide their secrets and sadness deep within. The bright lights that once shone have faded, and only morning lingers on. The singer pleads for a retreat to the place where he truly belongs- a land where memories are cherished.
The chorus of the song repeats "Take me back" three times, emphasizing the singer's desire to go back to where his heart belongs. He acknowledges that it's a lonesome road to travel on one's own, and lonely people often try to hide their secrets and sadness deep inside. The song ends with the singer's pleas answered, imagining himself finally free as he returns to his homeland.
Overall, the theme of the song conveys the hardship of feeling displaced and disconnected from one's past, and the longing for a place where one can feel truly at home. It's a song that many can relate to, as we all have moments where we miss where we came from and the memories that come with it.

I couldn’t believe this beautiful song never made the UK charts back in 1976, excellent lyrics, beautifully sung, deserved so much better. 🏴😀
