Jackson was born and raised in South Jamaica, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. His mother Sabrina, a drug dealer, died in a fire when he was 8. Since his father had already abandoned the family, young Curtis was sent to live with his grandparents. Growing up during the crack epidemic of the 80s and 90s, Jackson dealt drugs when he wasn't "killing time" at school or boxing at a local gym. His grandparents assumed he was at after-school programs when he was out selling crack. In tenth grade, Jackson was caught with guns and drug money passing through the metal detectors at Andrew Jackson High School in Queens. In 1994, Jackson was arrested again for selling vials of cocaine to an undercover officer, and three weeks later he was arrested yet-again after police found heroin, crack cocaine, and a starter pistol in his home. Jackson was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison, but opted to join a 6 month boot camp program and get his GED. Around this time, Jackson began going by "50 Cent," inspired by deceased Brooklyn stick-up man Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin.
After leaving drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he released his debut album Guess Who's Back Again in 2002. He was discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre and then signed to Interscope Records. He has since released Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003), The Massacre (2006), Curtis (2007) and Before I Self Destruct (2009).
50 Cent has engaged in feuds with other rappers including Jay-Z, Ja Rule, The Game, Cam'ron, Fat Joe, and Rick Ross. He has also pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq War film Home of the Brave in 2006, and Righteous Kill in 2008. 50 Cent is one of the richest hip-hop performers, having a net worth estimated at US $440 million in 2008.
Before 50 Cent ever inked a major deal, he built up a substantial fan base in New York through underground mixtapes. 50 Cent met up with Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC and was signed to his label to write all of Jay’s music. After he’d left JMJ, he signed to Columbia Records in 1996. On this label, he released Power of the Dollar, and the singles How to Rob and Ghetto Qua Ran. Columbia Records released him from the label after being shot on May 24th, 2000.
Around this time, Eminem had heard one of 50 Cent’s demo tapes and expressed a huge interest in him on MTV, as did Dr. Dre. Shortly after this, 50 Cent officially signed to Interscope Records. He was the first rapper to sign to the joint label owned by Dr. Dre and Eminem. The first song he released on this record was entitled Wanksta and was featured on the 8 Mile soundtrack.
In its first week of release, his debut ”Get Rich Or Die Tryin’” sold 872,000 units - easily reaching Gold status. Within the second week it went Platinum (1 mil) and on April 12th, 2004 the RIAA certified it six times Platinum.
In 2005 he followed the success of his album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ with a new release - The Massacre (originally called St. Valentines Day Massacre until the release date was pushed back). The first single released off this, Disco Inferno, was a huge hit - he followed this hit up by the release of Candy Shop and then again with Just a Lil Bit.
In 2003 Interscope Records allowed 50 Cent to have his own label - G-Unit Records. He first signed Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck as the established members of G-Unit Records. In 2004, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent had signed The Game under a joint venture.

Ain't nothin' changed, still holla at my homies
Oh, and when I hit the block I still will kill
And I don't want to, nigga, but I will if I got to kill
If niggas get to fuckin' around (yeah)
If niggas get to fuckin' around
Respect come from admiration and fear
You see the Testarossa, the toaster's right on my lap
So if a nigga get out of line then nigga get clapped
I got an arsenal, an infantry, I'm built for this mentally
That's why I'm the general, I do what they pretend to do
Front on me now, nigga, I'll be the end of you
Forget your enemies and think of what your friends'll do
I drop a bag off, then let a mag off
The Heckler & Koch'll tear half of your ass off
I'm not for the games, I'm not for all the playin'
The hollow tips rain when I unleash the pain
Get the message from the lions or get the message from the nine
Paint a picture with words, you can see when I shine
Put my back on the wall, nigga, watch me go for mine
I let twenty-one shots off at the same time, yeah
Oh, don't even look at me wrong when I come through the hood
Ain't nothin' changed, still holla at my homies
Oh, and when I hit the block I still will kill
And I don't want to, nigga, but I will if I got to kill
If niggas get to fuckin' around (yeah)
If niggas get to fuckin' around
Where I'm from death is always in the air, homie
Nana love me so you know she say my prayers for me
I come creepin' through the the hood wearin' Teflon
Hit the corners, motherfuckers get left on
Niggas know, if not, they better check my background
Try and stick me I'll fill your back with MAC rounds
Ask Preme, nigga, 50 don't back down
I keep it funky like fiends in a crack house
Cross the line, boy, I'ma air your ass out
Screw your face at me I wan' know what that's 'bout
Nigga, I know you ain't mad I done came up
And if you are, fuck you 'cause I ain't change up
The OG's wanna talk, but I don't know these niggas
And I ain't did no business with 'em, I don't owe these niggas
A minute of my time, I get it 'cause I grind
All across the globe like the world's mine, yeah
Oh, don't even look at me wrong when I come through the hood
Ain't nothin' changed, still holla at my homies
Oh, and when I hit the block I still will kill
And I don't want to, nigga, but I will if I got to kill
If niggas get to fuckin' around
If niggas get to fuckin' around
Konvict
Now tell me have you ever looked off in the distance
And seen a MAC aimin' at your head, man?
Before you know it, life is flashin', reminiscin'
And your body is drippin' and full of lead, man
I done been there, I done copped that
It ain't never been a question, I'm 'bout that
Don't go there, you'll get clapped at
And if you plan to fuck around and re-route that
You'll never catch me ridin' around on these streets
Without a couple metal pieces under my feet
Fully automatic weapons and loaded with dundees
Stashed up under the carpet like a can of Sea Breeze
50, don't make me ride on these niggas
'Cause I will kill, dip and hide on these niggas
50, don't make me ride on these niggas
'Cause I'll be long gone like the Ripper, so
Don't even look at me wrong when I come through the hood
Ain't nothin' changed, still holla at my homies
Oh, and when I hit the block I still will kill
And I don't want to, nigga, but I will if I got to kill
If niggas get to fuckin' around
If niggas get to fuckin' around
“I’ll Still Kill” is a single by rapper 50 Cent, released in 2007. In the song, 50 talks about his life in the hood, and how he will still kill anyone who disrespects him. He emphasizes that respect comes from admiration and fear, and that he’s not to be messed with. He boasts about his collection of weapons and how he’s ready to take on anyone who tries to cross him. He also mentions that death is always in the air, and that he’s always prepared. The song ends with a verse by Akon, warning listeners not to mess with 50, as he is ready to kill if necessary.
The song is controversial, and drew criticism from many people, including religious leaders and politicians, who claimed that it glorified violence and was a bad influence on young people. However, 50 defended the song, saying that it was merely a reflection of his life and the harsh realities of the streets. He argued that he was simply speaking his truth and that he wouldn’t apologize for it.
