Talk To Me
60ft Dolls Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Flying in the shadow of
A changing world
Waiting for the sun to arrive
Thirty thousand feet and
I'm rising fast
I'm driving full fathom five

You're the only person that
I care about
I want to hitch a ride
On your plane

I don't know the reason
That you're
Holding out
It's 'cause I want
To fly you again

You can talk, you can talk
You can talk to me
I believe in you
Do you believe in me?
You can talk to me

Lying to your face is such
An easy game
The violet in your eye
Is a dream

The acid sky is nearly
Close enough to touch
The gold you smell
Is nicotine

You can talk, you can talk
You can talk to me
I believe in you
Do you believe in me?
You can talk to me

I'm the only person
I care about
I want to hitch a ride
On your plane

I don't know the reason that
You're holding out
I wanna fly you again

You can talk, you can talk
You can talk to me
I believe in you

Do you believe in me?
You can talk to me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of 60ft Dolls’ “Talk to Me” speak to the yearning for human connection and understanding. The song’s first verse paints a picture of being suspended in a flux of change, far above the grounded mundane world. It’s a feeling of being adrift and directionless until the sun arrives- a new beginning, hope. It is a feeling of being in control of your own path despite the chaos that surrounds. The singer speaks of a desire to connect with someone they care about, wanting to hitch a ride on their plane, and fly with them. This feeling of wanting and needing to be close to someone is emphasised in the second verse where there’s a sense of urgency, swallowed by the enormousness of the skies above. Lying to this person is an easy game, but it’s not what the singer wants - they want honesty and openness, so they can believe in and connect with this person.

The chorus is the repeating plea for connection, “You can talk to me/ I believe in you/ Do you believe in me?/ You can talk to me”. It is a symbol of hope that they can bridge the gap and understand each other. The song brings a message of urgency and the need for understanding, of being understood and seen.

@@stephenroche5107 Thanks, but "yoof" is a deliberate mis-spelling, it's all about the alternative comedy of the 1980s if you're not familiar with that,.
