On the Inside
69 Chambers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To repeat the mistake knowing what's to be
There's war on the inside
That's why I try to make outside
What you wanna see
I'm on the inside, that's where I fight
The demons you have set upon me
Need to feel the empty space you've created
Not that it makes much sense but I can't escape it
There's war on the inside
That's why I try to make outside
What you wanna see
I'm on the inside, that's where I fight
The demons you have set upon me
Need you to
Fill the empty space you've created
I can't escape
War on the inside
That's where I try to fill this divide
But you just won't see
I'm on the inside
That's what I've tried to show you
But you just don't see
On the inside
This song, "On the Inside," by 69 Chambers explores the theme of internal turmoil and the struggle to reconcile inner conflicts while trying to maintain a façade of normalcy on the outside. The opening lines state that while it is difficult to undo the damage done, it is even easier to repeat the mistake once we know what it is. This sets the tone for the rest of the song, which delves into the singer's struggle with the demons that have been set upon them.
The chorus is particularly poignant, with the repeated line "There's war on the inside," emphasizing the constant battle that the singer is facing. They are trying to project an image of what others want to see on the outside, while on the inside, they are fighting to overcome the inner turmoil caused by others. The plea to "fill the empty space you've created" suggests that there is someone or something that has caused this internal turmoil, and the singer is desperate for it to be resolved. However, the conflict seems to persist, and the final lines, "That's what I've tried to show you, but you just don't see, on the inside," suggest that the singer's inner struggles continue to go unnoticed by others.
Overall, "On the Inside" is a powerful exploration of the internal struggles that people often face, while trying to maintain an image of normalcy on the outside. The lyrics are raw and emotional, and the repeated chorus creates a sense of inner turmoil and conflict that is palpable.
