The 6 Day Riot sound is both eclectic and at the same time entirely integrated - harnessing ukeleles, guitars, trumpet, violin and accordions with Eastern European folk beats, soca rhythms, distorted guitars and infectious pop melodies to create a style of music utterly their own.
6 Day Riot performed at North by Northeast 2008, debuting a new EP Bring On The Waves, featuring songs written for the festival, including the single Go! Canada. Their new EP and single were released on Tantrum Records, their own label. This year they are playing at Glastonbury and Green Man Festivals as well as touring the UK.
Their new album 6 Day Riot Have A Plan was released on 6th July 2009 on Tantrum Records, featuring new single Run For Your Life.
The band were named as one of the top 10 "pop picks of 2009" by Pete Paphides at the Times and their latest single has received National Radio play on Radio 2, 6 music, XFM and Radio 1.
Rise Again
6 Day Riot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's now that we needed. Inside your pocket, lined with our gold you hide your
Intentions and hold our restless souls. But oh we will rise once more, ignore
Those fearful men. I'll try to regain my strength for now I can breathe again.
Lost in the moment still biding our time we swim for this promise and hold
The dark line, now with momentum we run with the waves we're dying to meet
You, we're dying to know your name. To know your name...
The opening lines of the song "Chasing the circles and fighting the cause it's now that we have come for. It's now that we needed" refers to a sense of urgency and a call to action. The phrase 'chasing the circles' suggests that the band has been going round in circles in their pursuit of a cause, but now it is time to take action. The lyrics then take a more confrontational tone, criticizing someone who hides their true intentions behind their wealth, and suggesting that they hold people's restless souls. However, the band is optimistic that they will rise again and ignores those who are fearful.
The second verse of "Rise Again" continues to describe the struggle that the band is facing. The lyrics state, "Lost in the moment still biding our time we swim for this promise and hold the dark line". This indicates that the band is waiting for some sort of breakthrough, but they are determined to hold steady and not let anything hold them back. As the song progresses, the band gains momentum and begins to run with the waves, eager to meet the person that they have been pursuing. The song ends with the repeated refrain "we're dying to know your name", suggesting that the band is still searching for someone or something in order to achieve their goals.
