They first appeared on the rap scene with their 1993 album Comin' Out Hard. The album was successful commercially as well as critically and established the group as a prominent act in the then emerging Southern Rap scene. Their subsequent albums in the 1990s including 1994's On the Outside Looking In, and 1995's On Top of the World cemented their status as some of the South's best rappers. On Top of the World was particularly succeessful, peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 200 and being certified Gold. After those albums both 8Ball & MJG released solo albums, first MJG's No More Glory in 1997 and then 8Ball's Lost in 1998. They reunited in 1999 to release their fourth album as a group, titled In Our Lifetime, Vol. 1
For their later releases they signed with Bad Boy Records. Their first album for Bad Boy Records, Living Legends, was certified Gold by the RIAA. Their second album on Bad Boy Records was titled Ridin High and was released in March 2007.
Commercially one of the high points of 8Ball & MJG's career was their being featured on Three 6 Mafia's hit song "Stay Fly" in 2005. That song peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is the biggest hit of Three 6 Mafia's career and the biggest hit for 8Ball & MJG. Hickory dickory dock (dock), your girl pulled out my cock (my cock)
[Chorus:]
Here a girl, there a girl
Errwhere I go a girl
Blow dro wit the girl, I don't even know the girl
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
[Verse: 8 Ball]
Patrone, double shots, wit no chase
Sticky green, fire it up and blow it in yo face
We deep, 50 deep, so don't hate
Forever never slippin naw pimpin we straight
What it do, the bets back, the checks fat, the track tight
We funna cook a fresh batch
Money maker, you makin money, then show me some
Dime pieces, bend it over let me see ya thong
Shades on, blacka bodies I'm in my zone

You don't wanna hear me speak, you just wanna see my rims
Spinnin underneath my vehicle like a like a roll of film
I don't even need tint, they already know its me
If I add tint, when I get out they'll know its me
Hennesy, grey goose, good purp, and patrone
Gotta keep a lot of it, so I can stay in the zone
Everytime I'm in the hood, everytime I'm in the club
Look kids, grown folks, old folks show me love
[Chorus:]
Here a girl, there a girl
Errwhere I go a girl
Blow dro wit the girl, I don't even know the girl
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
Hickory dickory dock (dock), your girl pulled out my cock (my cock)
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
[Verse: 8 Ball]
Wheels spinnin, the kush burning
The beat knockin, I know the pill kickin in go on get it poppin
Don't be scared, we rock stars, we party hard, valley park 20 cars

Blow dro wit the girl, I don't even know the girl
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
Hickory dickory dock (dock), your girl pulled out my cock (my cock)
All day, every day, 365, 7 days a week
The lyrics to 8Ball & MJG's song Hickory Dickory Dock are a mix of bravado and hedonism. The song appears to be about the rappers consistently being surrounded by women, drinking heavily, and smoking marijuana. The chorus, "Here a girl, there a girl, Errwhere I go a girl, Blow dro wit the girl, I don't even know the girl” is emblematic of their carefree, wild lifestyle. The verses are each one rapper boasting about their own success and how they can afford to enjoy the finer things in life. They talk about their expensive liquor preferences like patron and grey goose, and their brand affiliation with Chevy.
Although the lyrics may appear crass and objectify women, the song holds significant cultural meaning for the Southern rap community. Hickory Dickory Dock was released on 8Ball & MJG's album Living Legends in 2004. The album, released through Bad Boy South, was a significant moment for the Southern rap community. Living Legends cemented 8Ball & MJG's place in the history of Southern rap with their unique flow, dark beats, and gritty storytelling. Their sample-heavy production and the intricate wordplay made their music appealing to rap fans across the US, particularly in the South.
