Every Morning
90s allstars Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every morning there′s a halo hangin
From the corner of my girlfriend's four post bed
I know it′s not mine but I'll see if I can use it for
The weekend or a one-night stand
Couldn't understand
How to work it out
Once again as predicted left my broken heart open
And you ripped it out
Something′s got me reeling
Stopped me from believing
Turn me around again
Said that we can do it
You know I wanna do it again
(Sugar Ray say)
Oh...
(Every Morning)
Oh...
(Every Morning when I wake up)
(Shut the door baby, don′t say a word)
Oh...
(She always rights the wrong, she always rights, she always rights)
(Shut the door baby, Shut the door baby)
Every Morning there's a heartache hanging
From the corner of my girlfriend′s four-post bed
I know it's not mine and I know she thinks she loves me
But I never can believe what she said
Something so deceiving
When you stop believing
Turn me around again
Said we couldn′t do it
You know I wanna do it again
Oh...
(Every Morning)
Oh...
(Every Morning when I wake up)
(Shut the door baby, don't say a word)
Oh...
(Every Morning)
Oh...
(Every Morning when I wake up)
(Shut the door baby, shut the door baby)
She always rights the wrong
For me
Baby
She always rights the wrong
For me
Every Morning there′s a halo hanging
From the corner of my girlfriend's four-post bed
I know it's not mine but I′ll see if I can use it for
The weekend or a one-night stand
(Shut the door baby, don′t say a word)
Every Morning
Every Morning when I wake up
(Shut the door baby, shut the door baby)
Every Morning
Every Morning (Turn me around again)
(Shut the door baby, don't say a word)
Every Morning
Every Morning

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Every Morning" express the confusion and contradictory emotions of the singer in a complicated relationship. The song opens with an image of a halo hanging over his girlfriend’s four-post bed, which he knows isn't his but still considers using it for a one-night stand. This image represents the moral dilemma he faces in his relationship, betraying the girl he loves, but unable to commit to her.

The singer also reflects on his broken heart and the impossibility of understanding his girlfriend's behavior, which constantly leaves him feeling deceived and bewildered. Despite the pain, he holds onto hope and the desire to make the relationship work.

Moreover, the chorus of the song, with its repetition of “Every Morning,” and the imperative "Shut the door baby," acts as a call to action, to turn around and try again. Yet, this cycle of confusion and hope continues, with the singer looking for a way to make it through each day, and avoid the heartache that comes with the morning.

In summary, the lyrics of "Every Morning" capture the complexity of a dysfunctional relationship, the emotional turmoil of the singer, and his quest to find happiness, despite the hardships.

The late 90s were one eternal summer.

@watchmanschannelofdespair

That was the 80's and I was down with the ladies!

@_Just_Another_Guy

I seriously felt like the world entered a parallel dimension for the worse when 9/11 hit. Like almost everything changed after that.

Even the year 2000 felt different like it was still the 90's vibe before 2001.

@faulsname8869

@@_Just_Another_Guy you’re absolutely right. It hasn’t been the same since that September day in 01. It’s like America lost her innocence that day.

Who else remembers the 90s ALWAYS being sunny and warm? Grew up in CA and the 90s were a beautiful time I'll always love looking back on

@JD-lp5rw

It felt like that even in the UK! Look back on TV shows it just always sunny and glowy. Cali in the 80s through 90s to the early 2000s might be the best place and time in history.
