BECAUSE OF YOU
98゜ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's all, it's all, it's all
You're my sunshine after the rain
You're the cure against my fear and my pain
'Cause I'm losing my mind
When you're not around
It's all, it's all
It's all because of you
You're my sunshine
Oh yeah

Baby I really know by now
Since we met that day
You showed me the way
I felt it then you gave me love
I can't describe
How much I feel for you

I said baby I should have known by now
Should have been right there
Whenever you gave me love
And if only you were here
I'd tell you, yes I'd tell you
Oh yeah

You're my sunshine after the rain
You're the cure against my fear and my pain
'Cause I'm losing my mind
When you're not around
It's all, it's all
It's all because of you

Honestly, could it be you and me
Like it was before
Neither less or more
'Cause when I close my eyes
At night I realize that no one else
Could ever take your place

I still can feel and it's so unreal
When you're touching me
Kisses endlessly
It's just a place in the sun
Where our love's begun
I miss you, yes I miss you

You're my sunshine after the rain
You're the cure against my fear and my pain
'Cause I'm losing my mind
When you're not around
It's all, it's all
It's all because of you

If I knew how to tell you
What's on my mind
Make you understand
Then I'd always be there
Right by your side

You're my sunshine after the rain
You're the cure against my fear and my pain
'Cause I'm losing my mind
When you're not around

It's all, it's all
It's all because of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of 98 Degrees' song "Because of You" speak of a person succumbing to addiction, struggling to control their impulses despite knowing the consequences of their actions. The singer finds themselves trapped between their desire (fantasy) and reality, unable to resist the temptation of their addiction. They know they have a problem, but even if they found a solution, they doubt they would want to quit. The song speaks of a person who has become addicted to a significant other (the "sweetest drug") and is aware they are strung out on their love. But despite the harm it may bring, the singer finds themselves powerless to leave the object of their affection. The song is indeed a relatable and realistic take on the powerful pull of love and how it can become an addiction.

From a musical perspective, "Because of You" unfolds in a smooth pop/R&B style, with a tempo that's an ideal match for its lyrics. The instrumentation includes a mellow guitar, restrained percussion, and a subtle bassline that imparts a rippling effect. The chorus in the song is particularly potent, with the backing harmonies elevating the track's overall emotional impact. The song's melody is catchy, and lead singer Nick Lachey delivers the lyrics with heartfelt urgency that further emphasizes the song's message.

I'm 43, grew up on boy bands, one of my all time favorite songs. I was in 7th grade when this came out, I was the only athlete who loved to sing boy bands out loud or to myself, then 8th grade hit and I was finally got caught singing by my teammates and classmates, best part I heard was hearing them saying dont stop. Now at 43 with my life on hold cause I was diagnosed with Chronic leukemia, it makes me smile with tears down my eyes, knowing life so precious this is my best therapy to get through
