What's interesting about your comment is that you are actually in agreement with Pedro, yet formed your comment into an argument which is moot since in fact there is nothing to argue. You are right, there are multiple reasons why Take On Me is more recognizable, i.e. the fact it is the only A-ha song to reach the Billboard top 100 in part due to the success of the music video and airplay on radio and MTV... Pedro mentions that "it is sad that most people only recognize Take On Me as their only hit", which is absolutely true for reasons I mentioned. So good luck with that one. lol

@@nena200able Waaktaar-Savoy seems to have transformed a sentence from a book he read. But I think the meaning of the song is different from the sentence "the husband was searching high and low" in any case. I personally think, it's about mankind's lunacy searching for extreme emotions in the outside when hunting or to "hunt" an object of desire, not seeing and realising that the hunter himself has an empty heart and needs energy from the outside; a soul without light so to speak, which explains the world we are living in today. Pure lunacy, on every level. As for many bands in the 80s, they have long-seen and talked about the nonsense we are heading too and now, after not listening and understanding, we are here...

Songwriting, yes. Phenomenal voice, yes. But it was the arrangement and production that doomed them in the U.S. It was more suited to Europeans and other countries and simply did not fit in with what was going on in the U.S. at that time.

@@tanzboden I lived through the 80's in my late teens and early twenties. Take on Me was a huge hit. And their follow-up Sun Always Shines on TV was a flop. After that you never heard from them again. But I devoured as much music as possible and gave them a try with their next few follow-up albums. But they simply did not fit in with other music in the 80's. No one I knew liked them. It was not until I heard the MTV Unplugged concert a few years ago that made me go wow, some of these songs are awesome. Because the arrangement was different. And then I went back and listened to all their stuff and realized that many of their songs over the years are awesome, but simply did not fit in with the other music going on at the time of the releases. But my wife's brother who has been a British citizen since the 70's said that A-ha were always huge in Europe. I'm glad I rediscovered them and now have 60-some of their songs on my Spotify playlist (including Morten and Paul's solo stuff).
