A-Set Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and all my heroes are the ones who kept on fighting
my time is now just like it's always been
In simple terms my life is still worth living
I'm a simple man who takes less than he's giving
What difference does a day make when you're counting out your life?
I can take this if I must, but I've heard about relief
Oh mercy me, I'd like to feel grounded
Invincible. Ha, there's a thought for dreamers
Significant, the magic's in the details
I have nothing to show, my thoughts are scrawled on paper
What does this mean, this busy head? These empty fears are very real
What does this mean that I can't reach the only thing I feel I need?
Oh I'm screaming for a change of scene.
In the opening lines of A-Set's song "It's Your Life," the artist explores a sense of discontent and self-awareness. The phrase "I'm predisposed to making much of nothing" suggests a tendency towards overthinking or amplifying minor concerns into significant worries. This line resonates with listeners who can relate to the struggle of feeling overwhelmed by seemingly mundane issues. Furthermore, by proclaiming, "all my heroes are the ones who kept on fighting," the artist acknowledges admiration for perseverance and resilience, implying that true heroism lies in tenacity despite challenges. The phrase “my time is now just like it's always been” indicates a recognition that every moment is an opportunity for action, yet it simultaneously hints at a sense of stagnation, as if the artist feels trapped in a recurring cycle of missed opportunities.
The second stanza reflects a philosophy of simplicity, providing a stark contrast to the previous complexities of the artist's thoughts. By asserting, "In simple terms my life is still worth living," the lyrics reaffirm a belief in personal value and an appreciation for life's fundamental worth. The artist characterizes themselves as "a simple man who takes less than he's giving," suggesting an undeserved humility or an inclination to underappreciate their own contributions in favor of honoring others. This purity of purpose reflects a dichotomy: on one hand, an acknowledgement of one's worth, and on the other, a self-imposed limitation that might prevent the artist from realizing their full potential. This tension between self-acceptance and self-critique permeates the song and sets the stage for deeper introspection.
As the lyrics progress, the artist poses probing questions about the nature of existence, particularly in the line, "What difference does a day make when you're counting out your life?" This rhetorical question encapsulates existential anxiety, expressing a feeling that day-to-day life may lack significance in the broader scope of time. The subsequent line, "I can take this if I must, but I've heard about relief," reveals a yearning for escape or respite from the burdens of daily struggles, indicating an awareness of the possibility for personal change. The juxtaposition of acceptance and longing courses through these lines, as the artist grapples with their circumstances while expressing hope for something better. This inner conflict serves to illustrate the complexity of human emotions when faced with life's inevitable challenges.
The concluding lines of the song bring forth themes of disillusionment and the quest for authenticity. The artist’s desire to “feel grounded” speaks to a yearning for stability and a connection to reality, which contrasts with the notion of invincibility—a trait commonly romanticized by dreamers who manifest aspirations without acknowledging the inherent vulnerabilities of life. The concluding thoughts about “the magic’s in the details” and feelings captured on “paper” underline the importance of reflection and the creative process, even in the face of a seemingly barren landscape of achievement. Ultimately, the visceral cry of "Oh I'm screaming for a change of scene" encapsulates a deep-seated desire for transformation and renewal. It suggests that the artist is not only aware of their struggles but is also ready to embrace new opportunities, recognizing that true growth often comes from confronting and understanding one’s fears and aspirations.
