Let Me Go
A-Set Lyrics

Doing my best to not look down.
Feeling like a ghost in the middle of a crowded room.
I'm alone, a stranger in my own town.
Oh who will be the one to save me?
Fix me up,
Help me come around,I'm falling now.
Don't let me go, don't let me go.
Is anybody gonna lift me up?
When you gonna come lift me up?
I'm out of my head, flat on my face.
Is anybody here listening?
When you gonna come let me in?
Don't let me go.
Spinning in the back yard where I grew up,
Lost a piece of me inside that house.
The top of that tree was the top of the world
But now it's gone,
Not a root left in the ground.
Oh just a memory, I'm chasing
Better days, but I'm far behind
Am I still alive?
Don't let me go, don't let me go
Is anybody gonna lift me up?
When you gonna come lift me up?
I'm out of my head, flat on my face.
Is anybody here listening?
When you gonna come let me in?
Cause the hardest part is holding on,
When everything has come undone.
Yeah everybody needs someone.
So when you gonna come lift me up?
When you gonna come lift me up?
Are you gonna come lift me up?
When you gonna come lift me up?
Don't let me go.
(Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back?
Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back ?
Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back,
Will it ever come back, will it ever come back.)
(Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back?
Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back ?
Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back,
Will it ever come back, will it ever come back.)
Are you gonna come lift me up?
Are you gonna come lift me up?
Yeah
Don't let me go, don't let me go.
Don't let me go.
In A-Set's song "Let Me Go," the opening lines vividly portray a sense of precariousness and vulnerability. The imagery of hanging on a tightrope, ten stories high, suggests a feeling of being caught between a sense of stability and the looming threat of falling. It encapsulates the anxiety of navigating life’s challenges while desperately trying to maintain balance. The mention of feeling like a ghost in a crowded room adds another layer to this emotional turmoil, as it conveys a profound sense of isolation despite being surrounded by others. This loneliness is palpable; the singer feels estranged in their own hometown, indicating that the familiar surroundings no longer provide comfort or a sense of belonging. The juxtaposition of physical height with emotional desolation highlights the internal struggle—an inability to connect with others despite their proximity.
The singer’s plea for rescue becomes a central theme in the song, as they question who will save them from their current state of despair. This longing for help reflects a deep need for connection and support, suggesting that the singer cannot navigate their emotional landscape alone. The repetition of "Don't let me go," conveys desperation, emphasizing the fear of abandonment and the need for someone to be there during their struggles. The imagery of being out of their head and flat on their face illustrates a feeling of defeat and exhaustion, which resonates with anyone who has faced overwhelming circumstances. This call for someone to "lift me up" highlights the universal human desire for assistance during tough times—a theme that is both relatable and poignant.
As the song progresses, the focus shifts to reminiscence—the singer reflects on their childhood as they spin in the backyard, a place of innocence and simplicity. The lines convey a sense of nostalgia, as they acknowledge that a piece of themselves has been lost within the walls of their past home. The comparison of the top of the tree to the top of the world reveals how important and significant that time and place were in their life, but the realization that "now it's gone" emphasizes a profound sense of loss and disconnection. The urgency in the singer’s quest for "better days" suggests that they are grappling not only with their current struggles but also with the bittersweet memories of what once was, heightening the existential questioning of whether they are still truly alive and experiencing life to the fullest.
In the song’s culmination, the emotional weight is further magnified by the acknowledgment that the hardest part of difficult times is merely holding on. This line resonates deeply, illustrating the struggle many face when everything seems to be unraveling around them. The repeated queries of "When you gonna come lift me up?" underscore an intense desire for support from external sources to help navigate through fragility. The haunting refrain of "Is it gone gone? Will it ever come back?" illustrates a cyclical contemplation of loss, hope, and the longing for stability in one's life. In the final moments of the song, the plea not to be let go encapsulates a raw vulnerability—a desperate yearning for connection, understanding, and love in times of strife. Overall, "Let Me Go" captures the essence of emotional struggles while inviting listeners to reflect on their own vulnerabilities and the importance of seeking and offering support to one another.
