When I smelled the smoke, I felt the ache
I took the road way too far
My treasure map glows with your star
You wrote a note in the back of my head
Left on seen, left on read
You were the teacher, but I never listened
Today I think I get the lesson
More than you think
It's not a loss it's a lesson, write it down in your mind
It's not a lesson it's a lesson, you'll find a way out
It's not a loss it's a lesson, write it down in your mind
It's not a lesson it's a lesson, the only way out is the sky
Before you climb the ladder of life, it's only a matter of time
Release your breath and close your eyes
Give your soul a break, I'll never let it die
The pawn needs a king
More thank you think
The pawn is lost without the king
More than you could ever think
I see it now
But the curtain fell down
He taught me not to fear the night
It's only a matter of time
There's always light beneath the grief
You'll realize a guide is what you need
It's not a loss it's a lesson, write it down in your mind
It's not a lesson it's a lesson, you'll find a way out
It's not a loss it's a lesson, write it down in your mind
It's not a lesson it's a lesson, the only way out is the sky
Mourne while you can
Before the journey comes to an end
Mourne while you can
Before the journey comes to an end
Mourne while you can
Before the journey comes to an end
Mourne while you can
Before the journey comes to an end
In A.K.-S.w.i.f.t.'s song "It's on," the lyrics explore the idea of learning from past mistakes and experiences. The first verse talks about being late and missing out on something important because of not paying attention. The line "you were the teacher, but I never listened" highlights the regret of not taking advice that could have helped in the situation. However, the chorus emphasizes the idea that even though it may feel like a loss, it is actually a lesson to be learned and taken forward in life. The pawn and king metaphor represent the idea that everyone needs guidance and support, and sometimes it's okay to admit that you need help.
The second verse talks about taking a step back and finding peace within oneself before embarking on the journey of life. The lines "release your breath and close your eyes" and "give your soul a break" suggest the importance of self-care and taking a moment to reflect. The bridge of the song gives a glimmer of hope, stating that even amidst pain and sadness, there is always light to be found and a guide is needed to help navigate through it. The repetition of the line "mourne while you can, before the journey comes to an end" emphasizes the urgency of taking lessons from experiences while there is still time.
Overall, the song promotes the idea of learning from mistakes, seeking guidance when needed, and finding hope even in difficult times.
