The Dream
A.K.A Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dreams just, dreams just are a memory
Of things we never thought we'd ever be
Meanwhile, over by the riverside
Things grow
Dreams just, dreams just are a fallacy
Of truth filtered through a drama scene
Spend time moving through the undergrowth
And you'll know
These are the voyages you'll never see
Wake up, emotional fatality
Blue lights alter your reality
As it goes
I'll pray for you, I'll be your friend
But nothing more tonight
I'll stay with you until it's done
But nothing more tonight
Dreams just, dreams just are a memory
Of things we never thought we'd ever be
Meanwhile, over by the riverside
Things know
Dreams lust, passion for a silhouette
Push through fingers on the water's edge
Wake up spiritual masochist
It's time to go
I'll pray for you, I'll be your friend
But nothing more tonight
I'll stay with you until it's done
But nothing more tonight
I'll pray for you, I'll be your friend
But nothing more tonight

I'll stay with you until it's done
But nothing more tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to A.K.A's song "The Dream" are riddled with complex themes of disillusionment, loss, and the elusive nature of personal growth. At its core, the song talks about how dreams, which are often thought of as expressions of our deepest desires, are merely memories of things that we never thought we could be. The first verse draws attention to the passage of time, the things that grow by the riverside, and how dreams can often be a fallacy or a fabrication of truth. It highlights the journey of moving through the undergrowth, which is a metaphor for the hard work and effort that goes into attaining one's goals. The voyages that we never see are a reference to the missed opportunities and chances that we never take.

The second verse of the song speaks more to the internal struggles that one goes through when trying to achieve their dreams. The lyrics touch upon the theme of spiritual masochism and the pain one feels when trying to reconcile with their goals. The blue lights altering the character's reality is a reference to the surreal and often confusing nature of personal introspection, where one's thoughts and emotions become blurred. The chorus of the song is a declaration of sorts, where the singer promises to be there for their friend, but only in a platonic manner. It's almost as if they are acknowledging that dreams can divide even the closest of friends and that unrequited love often comes at a severe emotional cost.

I used to say AKA will never release a song better than this one in his music career.
Two months after his departure and I still can't get enough of this song.

"Fuck the underground we've been cooking for a while
My nigga been down since a booking was a thou
With my ladies in the house sleeping on my moma couch
Take the whole amount throw it in my mom's account, that's Dreamwork"

This verse cleanses my heart.

I stll can't believe that you are really gone. I miss you man
Rest easy Keirnana
I really hope, wish and pray some day you will get justice for the way you left
