After 2 singles on different labels and a surprise number one hit as part of M/A/R/R/S's "Pump Up the Volume", they made two ground-breaking albums that placed them precariously in the indie scene - however they preferred the term "dream pop". These albums were 69 in 1988 and i in 1989.
Hard to place in terms of genre, 69 was more consciously indie, though that's not saying much, seen by some as part of a continuum that included jimi hendrix' more spaced-out offerings, miles davis and others - musically it asked questions and opened doors that have still to be explored. 'i' was a dramatic change, clearly slicker and smoother, and covering a wide variety of styles over twenty-six tracks (ten of which were short noise interludes). "i" also spawned A.R. Kane's best-known song in "A Love From Outer Space". Both albums achieved wide critical acclaim.
Follow up album New Clear Child (1994), was not received as well, the reasons being a believed lack of coherent direction and a feeling that the ideas were merely (admittedly excellent) re hashes of works that were completed more succinctly in the earlier 2 albums.
Rudy Tambala made ambient and dub influenced music under the name Sufi. Neither is currently involved in the music industry to any great extent. Post-A.R. Kane, Alex Ayuli was (possibly still is) a museum curator in the U.S. Russell Smith still DJ's rare soul 45s in UK and Europe and earns a living as a restorer/ decorator in South West France.

Just silence, the writing's on the wall
this is not another sad story
This is just another heart in tears
This is not another sad story
This is just another heart in tears
What came clear, and then I lost it all
this is not another sad love song
This is just another sad love crossed
This is not another sad love song
This is just another sad love crossed
I never like to turn it off
I never lied, so turn it off
Just turn it off
what's happening, there goes one more day
Obscene, erased for one more day
this is not another poor excuse
This is just another poor lost child
This is not another poor excuse
This is just another poor lost child
I never lied, just turn it off
No place to be, just turn it off
this is not another poor excuse
This is just another poor lost child
This is just a body without use
This is just another soul gone wild
The lyrics of A.R. Kane’s song Suicide Kiss seem to be exploring the feelings of someone who is lost and alone. It opens with the lines “What’s happening, she’s not there/Just silence, the writing’s on the wall,” which suggest the singer is feeling abandoned and is struggling to make sense of his surroundings. He repeatedly insists that the situation is “not another sad story” or “not another sad love song” but only “just another heart in tears” or “just another sad love crossed.” These lines highlight the singer’s sense of isolation and sadness, as he feels as though his pain is unremarkable and not worth discussing.
The song’s middle section is more obscure, with lyrics such as “What came clear, and then I lost it all” and “there goes one more day/Obscene, erased for one more day.” These lines suggest that the singer may have had some revelations or moments of clarity, only to have everything crumble away again. He seems to be struggling to make sense of his thoughts and emotions, but is constantly thwarted.
The final part of the song has a more desperate tone, as the singer asserts that “This is just a body without use/This is just another soul gone wild.” He seems to have lost all hope and is resigned to his fate, with no clear way out of his despair.
