idk why, but i just have a feeling that she might pull a sorean antiqua during the war between the two factions in 3 & end up getting killed. it would set a very emotional scene for the people who have played through 1, and i feel like monolith soft may go that route, considering how they know how to emotionally pull a person's heart with their own characters' deaths in past xeno games they worked on

Id personally like to think its Mio's theme becouse:

I think this refers to Mio only having so much time left to live before she dies.

'I would keep thinking and questioning to myself

This becouse Mio for most of the journey didnt really know what she was fighting for and becouse she didnt believe she could make it to the end of the journey before she passed away.
Altough this line could also apply to M (Mio's other self.) becouse she didnt want to live anymore and doesnt see a way for things to get better.

God hearing this after Pyra and Mythra got revealed for smash...

My mind immediately went to Etika.

He was probably the one who fought the most to see them in smash. He loved Xenoblade 2 as well as the characters and story. I've never seen him cry at a game before. I dont think even Undertale made him cry. Not to mention he went out of the way to grind for every unique blade (even KOS-MOS, the crazy bastard) I could tell he genuinely loved the game.

I wish he was here today to see where they are now. If he were, I'd hear him scream from Brooklyn all the way here in Texas, without a doubt

The symbology of the song is pretty nuts, the whole part about the Jacobs ladder within the thematic framework the game borrows from refers to man trying ro usurp god. Of course this action is caused by grief which refers to Jin and Amalthus who both in their search for happiness and despeeation discarded their "humanity" becoming a Blade/Human hybrid to either kill god or become his agent yet they do not find happiness in this.

Nia on the other habd still chose to be Rex's Blade even as a Flesh Eater similarly Pneuma also didn't fall into despair like Malos so Nia and Pneuma represent the part of the lyrics where they let go of the Jacob's ladder and walk forward finding self worth in their current form not discarding their "humanity" and ultimately finding self acceptance and happiness.

Eh, swinging back to Pneuma when she’s not even in the game doesn’t sit right with me.

Plus, this still easily applies to Nia, who’s been trapped in the same second of time for Klaus knows how long, trying to find the solution with nothing more than Rex, Pyra, Mythra, Dromarch and the rest to keep her going.

And the last paragraph fits that way, because Nia defines herself by the people around her, and is very aware of it. Whereas, Mio’s already carved her own path out and defined herself by the end of the game

Makes sense, seeing as this song plays for not just one, but two scenes that are important to Nia, the first being during Vandham's death, one of the first important cutscenes to heavily hint at her being a Flesh-Eater, and a death that she blames herself for. And then the second being, of course, the scene where she reveals her Blade form.

I wouldn't say the theme in 2 is really meant to be a Nia theme specifically, but in the same vein, I wouldn't really consider Eryth Sea to be Melia's theme specifically in 1, but still very much a theme connected to her regardless, which is why it, like Drifting Soul for Nia, was chosen to be her theme in 3.

It’s insane how well the lyrics fit with M in XC3. She went down the path of Moebius to be with N, but after walking the path for so long she began to question the meaning to their path. She wants N to remind her why they chose this life, only to realize he has lost his heart after so many years of taking lives. He wished for them to be together again, but it wasn’t worth it. So now she was lost in search for her Noah again. She then found new hope in Noah and Mio, making her choose a new path of helping them win because this Mio was the real version of herself she longed for.

I think things are a bit misunderstood in the middle there, M since the beginning didn't like being a part of the eternal now, especially since to be a part of it N had to destroy the old city, killing their son in the process (well in future redeemed we now know that it's not that simple, but still, that's the end result)

N became resentful of his choices but accepts his position as moebius just because he gets to be with M, however M never chose to be moebius, she never wanted it, she only chose to stay because of N and even then it was unwillingly, as N's resentful self isn't the person she fell in love with, he isn't her Noah

The end is basically spot on, after she sees the main party's determination in chapter 5 she decides to help them and free Mio of her 10 year life span, effectively returning to her old life as ouroboros and eventually, when the party defeats N, living with her Noah again, freeing them from regret

It's wasn't until my second playthrough that I saw the Nia was considered revealing herself to save Rex during the fight at the ruins during the Malos Acod fight. Little details like that really made this game great

That is why this game is so great. The most important thing for game developers is to create that emotional attachment between the player and character(s) . Very few manage to pull it off, and even fewer do it as good as Monolith did in Xenoblade 2.
