You say you want to be friends
Start over and try again?
Well, things will never be the way they were back then
Things were never how you wanted
I couldn't think of you that way
Now, if you walk one step closer I will take two steps away
Maybe you need affection
I'd like to help you but I can't stand when you're around
Fuck you very much
Maybe you need to talk but you betrayed my trust
Friends were not good enough?
Fuck you very much
You can fucking claim you're straight
Go ahead and dye your hair
Won't get more attention from me
I will never fucking care
I try to remain secret
Shooting away, hiding out
But you always track me down
Open your eyes and figure it out
Maybe you need affection
I'd like to help you but I can't stand when you're around
Fuck you very much
Maybe you need to talk but you betrayed my trust
Friends were not good enough?
Fuck you very much
I'm not trying again
I'm sick of seeing you
Don't wanna be your friend
I wish you'd go away
Fuck you very much
You say you want to be friends
Start over and try again?
Well, things will never be the way they were back then
Things were never how you wanted
I couldn't think of you that way
Now, if you walk one step closer I will take two steps away
Maybe you need affection
I'd like to help you but I can't stand when you're around
Fuck you very much
Maybe you need to talk but you betrayed my trust
Friends were not good enough?
Fuck you very much
The lyrics of AFI's song "Crop Tub" delve into the complicated nature of relationships and the difficulty of moving on from a past that didn't go the way someone had hoped. The opening lines of "Fuck you very much" set the tone for the song's biting, sarcastic tone. The song addresses a former friend who wants to start over and be friends again, but the singer is skeptical and hurt by the previous relationship.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses frustration and anger towards the former friend, calling them out for betraying their trust and not being satisfied with just being friends. The lyrics "Maybe you need affection, I'd like to help you but I can't stand when you're around" highlight the internal conflict and struggle with wanting to be there for someone, but not being able to handle the pain that comes along with it.
At the heart of "Crop Tub," the message seems to be about setting boundaries and the power of saying no. The repeated lyric "Fuck you very much" is a blunt way of saying that sometimes, it's okay to not want to give someone a second chance, especially if they've betrayed your trust.
Overall, the song is a raw and honest portrayal of the complicated emotions that come with navigating friendships and relationships, and the importance of setting boundaries and prioritizing your own well-being.
