While I can learn to hate you
If you somehow learn to love me
Well, that's just my luck
I would never ever care
If you only wanted friendship
But somehow you're disappointed
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
So fuck you
In my mind there is no doubt
That you've been in and out of
Many different backseats
Many times before
I can always see your defeat
When I won't leave the front seat
Now it seems your disappointed
That I'm not a whore
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
So fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
So fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
I don't wanna fuck you
(I don't wanna fuck you)
So fuck you
In this song, AFI frontman Davey Havok addresses someone who is interested in him romantically or sexually, making it clear that he is not interested in either. The lyrics express his frustration with this person's persistent advances despite his lack of interest. The lines "I will never wanna date you, while I can learn to hate you" reveal that he would rather develop negative feelings towards this person than enter into a romantic relationship with them. In the chorus, he repeats "I don't wanna fuck you" multiple times to emphasize his point and assert his agency in the situation.
The second verse continues this theme of rejecting sexual advances. Havok suggests that the person has a history of sleeping around, and that he is not interested in participating in that kind of behavior. He also notes that the person is disappointed that he is not engaging in sexual activity with them, which speaks to societal pressures that often dictate that men should always be interested in sex. Havok's lyrics push back against this notion by emphasizing his right to say "no."
Overall, "Cruise Control" is a song about setting boundaries and saying no to unwanted advances. Havok's lyrics are straightforward and defiant, rejecting societal expectations and standing up for his own desires and beliefs.
