Death of Seasons

To leave this dead space with hatred, so alive
Writhing with sickness, thrown into banality, I decay
Killed by the weakness, but forced to return, turn it off
I watch the stars as they fall from the sky
I held a fallen star and it wept for me, dying
I feel the fallen stars encircle me now, as they cry
Out there so quickly grows malignant tribes
Posthuman extinction excels unrecognized
Feeling surrounded, so bored with mortality, I decay
All of this hatred is fucking real, turn it on, yeah
I watch the stars as they fall from the sky
I held a fallen star and it wept for me, dying
I feel the fallen stars encircle me now, as they cry
It won't be all right despite what they say
Just watch the stars tonight as they, as they disappear, disintegrate
And I disintegrate 'cause this hate is fucking real
And I hope to shade the world as stars go out and I disintegrate
The lyrics of "Death of Seasons" by AFI are hauntingly introspective, and seem to grapple with depression and nihilism. The beginning of the song portrays a sense of difficulty in processing the outside world, and a feeling of being trapped in a "dead space" filled with hatred. The singer seems to be struggling with their own mental state, feeling "writhing with sickness" and "decaying" inside. The use of the phrase "turn it off" suggests a desire to shut out the world and its negativity.
As the song progresses, the singer's focus shifts to the stars. They describe watching the stars as they fall from the sky, and holding a fallen star that weeps for them, seemingly reflecting the singer's own sadness and despair. The final lines of the song speak to a hope of "shading the world" as the stars go out and the singer disintegrates. There is a sense of wanting to disappear into the night sky, to be free of the pain and suffering of the world.
Overall, "Death of Seasons" is a powerful and deeply emotional song that explores themes of mental health, nihilism, and the search for meaning in a bleak and challenging world.
