Through our bleeding we are one
Through our bleeding we are one
Through our bleeding we are one
Through the darkness breaks the light
Through the light unending pain
Deify the wretched ones
Through our bleeding we are one
Through our bleeding we are one
Through our bleeding we are one
Through our bleeding we are one
The lyrics of AFI's song Strength Through Wounding are a haunting reflection on the idea of unity through shared pain and suffering. The repetition of the phrase "through our bleeding we are one" serves to emphasize the importance of coming together in the face of adversity, even if it means enduring hardship and pain in the process. The second stanza continues this theme, with a juxtaposition of darkness and light that suggests that even in the moments of our greatest suffering, there may be moments of hope and clarity that can help sustain us.
The final line of the second stanza, "deify the wretched ones till the darkness comes again," is a striking one. It suggests that in order to endure the challenges of life, we may need to elevate those who are often viewed as outcasts or misfits in society. By doing so, we create a sense of unity and purpose that is powerful enough to withstand even the darkest times.
Overall, Strength Through Wounding is a deeply insightful song that speaks to the universal human experience of pain, suffering, and the search for hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
