Key Largo
ARBES Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wasted,
why you wasting it?
Sulphate
soul can't breathe straight

Sold and loaded
with arms spread stolen
in a forward motion
we'll dissolve slower

Wavering,

for your warmth it's worth amber and gold
palms already worn

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Arbes's song Key Largo could be interpreted as a commentary on the destructive nature of drug addiction. The opening lines "Wasted, why you wasting it?" suggest that the singer is addressing someone who is squandering their life and potential on drugs. The reference to "sulphate" could be interpreted as a reference to amphetamines, which stimulate the central nervous system and can cause shortness of breath and respiratory problems.

The second verse, "Sold and loaded with arms spread stolen in a forward motion we'll dissolve slower," suggests that the singer is describing a drug addict who has sold everything they have to feed their habit and is now trapped in a downward spiral from which they cannot escape. The repetition of the phrase "forward motion" suggests that the addict is always moving towards their next fix, even though it is destroying them.

The chorus, "Wavering, for your warmth it's worth amber and gold palms already worn," suggests that the addict is willing to do anything to get their next fix, even if it means sacrificing their health, relationships, and financial stability. The reference to "amber and gold" could be interpreted as a reference to the color of drugs like heroin or opioids that are often associated with warmth and pleasure.

I'm so glad I found the name of this song. I first heard it in a YouTube video but it was faintly playing in the background while someone was talking, so I couldn't make out the lyrics. It was pretty elusive. I posted a link to the video on reddit in an indie music thread and asked if anyone could identify the song. Within minutes, someone commented and redirected me to Arbes' album on Spotify which featured this song. I was so happy!

I finally found it again. For around one entire year I occasionally had this song playing in my head but was struggling to find it because I was somehow convinced that it was from the band SALES since their similar in style but it obviously wasn't. At one point I even wondered if I had just dreamt this song lol. But then I listened to the song that used to be prior to this on my playlist and it all clicked. Great song.
