Hero
ATB Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody wants to be the hero
Everybody else to see them drown
Sometimes when the world seems sad and grey
I just want to pull these curtains down

You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you when you're gone
You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you
I will not forget you when you're gone

If I ever find my way to zero
I will try to hold you underground
And if ever I should see your face
I will try to pull these curtains down

You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you when you're gone
You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you
I will not forget you when you're gone

Everybody wants to be the hero
Everybody else to see them drown
Sometimes when the world seems sad and grey
I just want to pull these curtains down

You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you when you're gone
You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you
I will not forget you when you're gone

You're my hero
You're my hero
I will not forget you when you're gone
You're my hero
You're my hero

I will not forget you
I will not forget you when you're gone

Overall Meaning

The song "Hero" by ATB is all about hero worship and idolization. The lyrics describe how everybody wants to be a hero and be seen as a hero by others. However, sometimes when the world seems sad and grey, the person speaking in the song just wants to pull the curtains down and escape. In the chorus, the person sings directly to their hero and tells them that they will not forget them, even after they are gone. They then go on to mention that if they ever find themselves at rock bottom, they will try to hold their hero up, but if they were ever to see their hero again, they would try to pull the curtains down to protect them from the harshness of the world.

The song speaks to the idea that somebody can be so important and influential in another person's life that they become a hero. It touches on the concept of hero worship and being inspired by somebody else's actions. The lyrics also highlight the importance of remembering those we consider heroes, even after they have passed on.
