Walkabout
AUGUSTINES Lyrics

Where my tired head carried me
I walked out into the breeze
To be quiet with the storms inside
I prayed but that's never worked
Why would it now?
Lifted my arms out and tenderly whispered
Take, take these eyes
And all I was and my disguise
And lay them out, on the beach
'Cause I won't need
Them now to see inside
Take, take this voice
And all it's songs from my insides
And spread them out over the waves
Over the sea, above the cliffs
In melody
So come on home
Come on home
It's over now
This walkabout
It's been so long
It's been so long
Come home please
Into the arms of the sea
Where my tired head carried me
I walked out to the waves
To be quiet with the storms inside
The lyrics of Augustines' song Walkabout tell the story of a person who is feeling lost and disconnected from the world around them. The singer walks out into the sea, seeking solace from their inner turmoil. They pray for guidance, but despite their efforts, they feel adrift and directionless. They ask for their eyes and their disguise to be taken away, as they no longer need them to see inside. They wish for their voice and the songs inside them to be spread out over the waves and the cliffs in a melody. The song finishes on a note of hope, with the singer asking themselves to come back to the world and to the people they left behind.
The lyrics of this song are deeply emotional and moving. They invoke feelings of sadness, loneliness, and confusion. The singer is clearly struggling with some form of mental or emotional trauma, and they are searching for a way to heal themselves. The sea becomes a metaphor for this healing process, as it represents both the danger and the tranquility of life. The storm inside the singer is matched by the storm of the sea, and in this way, they find a kind of peace.

Into the arms of the sea
I sought refuge in the sea's embrace

I ventured out into the open air
To be quiet with the storms inside
I sought stillness, to calm the turmoil within me
I prayed but that's never worked
Despite my attempts to reach out, my prayers have gone unanswered
Why would it now?
I doubt that anything will change
Lifted my arms out and tenderly whispered

I don't know how, but I've become lost
Take, take these eyes
Remove my ability to see the outside world
And all I was and my disguise
I give up my identity and facade
And lay them out, on the beach
I relinquish them to the shore
'Cause I won't need
I won't require them
Them now to see inside
To look inward and uncover what truly matters
Take, take this voice
Strip me of my ability to use my voice
And all it's songs from my insides
I give up everything I have to say
And spread them out over the waves
I release them to the sea
Over the sea, above the cliffs
Where they can soar freely and unrestricted
In melody
To be woven into the natural rhythm of the world
So come on home
I call out for my sense of belonging
It's over now
The walkabout, the journey I've been on - it has ended
This walkabout
The struggle to find my path
It's been so long
This journey was longer than I originally thought
Come home please
I plead with my inner self to return to a place of comfort
Into the arms of the sea
Once again, I return to the safety of the water
Where my tired head carried me
A place of solace, where my journey began
I walked out to the waves
I took my final steps away from the land
To be quiet with the storms inside
To calm the tempest raging inside and find peace at last
