Trollz
A Breath Before Surfacing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Staring in disbelief of how much I love you
And how much you love gnawing on my fingers
This thread never seems to end
Our dying wish, to slay these demons and dine on their flesh
Decades of angst concealed
Bred into society's dregs
Behind a wall of fire they reside
Awaiting the fateful day on which we create our final resolution
In a web of deceit, the serpentine savior of all
I have seen so many fall into this black hole that consumes your every action
To hide in a cave
The hollow comfort of the flame
Now be witness to the battle that ensues
A war has been declared
Which side will you choose?
ATTACK
After all is said and done

We did our best but they won
Well they've never mattered anyway

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A Breath Before Surfacing's song Trollz can be interpreted as a commentary on a toxic relationship that is destructive and rooted in deception. The first line of the song, "Staring in disbelief of how much I love you / And how much you love gnawing on my fingers," presents an image of someone who is deeply in love but also recognizes the harmful nature of the relationship. The thread that "never seems to end" could represent the cyclical nature of the relationship, or possibly the web of lies and deceit that the couple has spun around themselves.

The reference to "slaying demons and dining on their flesh" could represent a desire to conquer the issues that plague the relationship and move on to something healthier. The lines "Decades of angst concealed / Bred into society's dregs" suggest that the issues in the relationship are not unique to the couple, but rather systemic problems in society. The image of demons "behind a wall of fire" could represent the difficulties and obstacles that the couple faces in trying to overcome their problems.

The song ends with the lines "After all is said and done / We did our best but they won / Well, they've never mattered anyway." This could suggest that despite the best efforts of the couple, their issues proved insurmountable, and ultimately the people or forces causing the problems were not important. It could be interpreted as a message of moving on from toxic relationships and not dwelling on the past.

the demo version is a million times better. this version is overproduced and the drum sound and everything else makes it sound so plastic. wish the production/mixing quality of their demo was how this entire album sounded and it would easily be probably my favorite deathcore album ever. they're an amazing band i just don't like what the producer did to this album.
