Circles
A Chinese Firedrill Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My claim to fame
Won't come in the shape
Of hearts and flowers
What will it take
Everything that I know
And all the things that I've learned
How come I've been walkin' in circles
Believin' that the things that I love
They will always be perfect and around
How come I've been needing a purpose
Assuming that the world even cares
If we all live or die
Or die
Or die
Or die
If we all live or die
If we all live or
If we all live or
If we all live or die
If we all live or die
What can I say
I have no shame
I can't complain
But I will anyway
What will it take
I gave it all that I had
Everything I ever give
I even gave her my heart
And she left with him
Or die
Or die
Or die
If we all live or die
If we all live or
If we all live or
If we all live or die
If we all live or die
We watch
Everyone walkin' in circles
So many turns
That it might seem like I'm hurtful
But the truth is
I'm really just lookin' for ways
That we could all be makin' a change
Fly together like one in the same
Ride together like a charm and chain
But that won't happen 'cause we're d-d-deranged
So addicted to watchin' you laid
Dark ass wanna be strange
Like me live only days
Like we best of friends
But reality kicks me a message
And I guess I learned a lesson
From the test that I was given
Just like all the rest is nothin'
If we all live or die
If we all live or
If we all live or
If we all live or die
If we all live or die
What can I say
I'm livin' today
I'm feelin' alive
But death is creepin'
What will it take
My love is dead in a grave
And now I'm smillin' in court
And they keep askin' my what your secret again
Or die
Or die
Or die
If we all live or die
If we all live or
If we all live or
If we all live or die
If we all live or die
Or die
Or die
Or die
If we all live or die
Or die
Or die
Or die
If we all live or die
The song "Circles" by A Chinese Firedrill explores themes of cyclical patterns in life, the frustrating reality of love and loss, and the desire for change. The first verse tackles the idea that the singer's claim to fame won't come in the form of hearts and flowers, indicating that they have experienced some hardships in life. The chorus then questions why they have been walking in circles, believing that the things they love will always be perfect and around, and searching for purpose in a world that may not care if we live or die.
The second verse delves into the personal struggle of giving everything to someone and still being left behind, leading to a sense of resignation and apathy. The following rap verse touches on the larger societal issue of people walking in circles, but ultimately finding it difficult to enact real change due to societal norms and individual addictions.
Overall, the song seems to be a reflection on the cyclical nature of life and the desire for something more, whether it be love, purpose, or societal change.

What can I say
I am at a loss for words
My claim to fame
The thing that makes me special or successful
Won't come in the shape
Will not be in the form of
Of hearts and flowers
Romantic gestures and sweet nothings
What will it take
What is necessary
Everything that I know
My entire knowledge and experience
And all the things that I've learned
All the knowledge and lessons I have gained
To overcome what's next around each turn
To be prepared for any future obstacles
How come I've been walkin' in circles
Why am I stuck in a repeating pattern
Believin' that the things that I love
Trusting that the things I care about are reliable and unchanging
They will always be perfect and around
They will never disappoint or disappear
How come I've been needing a purpose
Why do I feel like I lack direction or meaning
Assuming that the world even cares
Thinking that anyone else values my existence
If we all live or die
Whether we survive or perish
What can I say
I have nothing new to add
I have no shame
I have no regrets or remorse
I can't complain
I have no reason to voice my dissatisfaction
But I will anyway
But I will express my frustration anyway
I gave it all that I had
I put in maximum effort
Everything I ever give
All the love and care I ever gave
I even gave her my heart
I gave her my all, emotionally and physically
And she left with him
She chose another person over me
We watch
We observe
Everyone walkin' in circles
Everyone is stuck in a repetitive cycle
So many turns
So many twists and changes
That it might seem like I'm hurtful
That I may come across as critical or cruel
But the truth is
In reality
I'm really just lookin' for ways
I am seeking opportunities
That we could all be makin' a change
That we can all work together to bring about a positive transformation
Fly together like one in the same
Cooperate and act as one unit
Ride together like a charm and chain
Work smoothly as a coordinated team
But that won't happen 'cause we're d-d-deranged
But we can't achieve this because we are mentally unstable
So addicted to watchin' you laid
So fixated on seeing you fail
Dark ass wanna be strange
I aspire to be unique and unconventional
Like me live only days
I feel like I don't have much time left to live
Like we best of friends
Like we are very close companions
But reality kicks me a message
But reality reminds me of the truth
And I guess I learned a lesson
And I suppose there is something to be gained from this experience
From the test that I was given
From the challenge I faced
Just like all the rest is nothin'
Just like everything else is meaningless
I'm livin' today
I am existing in the present moment
I'm feelin' alive
I am experiencing vitality and excitement
But death is creepin'
But my mortality is always close by
My love is dead in a grave
My affection for someone has ended
And now I'm smillin' in court
And now I am on trial, appearing calm and composed
And they keep askin' my what your secret again
And they keep questioning me about my supposed secret

Even when this was posted in 2011, Joey Vera was again a member of Armored Saint, as they reformed in 2008 and La Raza was released in 2010.

I no longer know any people to whom I could recommend this music.....well, I believe that Scotty would appreciate this, he is a musician with whom I worked at a record store when I was in high school.....most people just don’t seem to get
,it, so to say, unfortunately, so many people are missing out on great artistry, e. g., this band, et cetera.

I recommended it to my son (24) and he really enjoyed it. (He's a mulit-talent musician) He pointed out that albums like this are not just "progressive" in terms of the genre, but also in terms of the music, in general. That is, always trying new things. He has turned me on to bands like A Perfect Circle that I would never have learned about because I am basically a metal head. (although I have seen Rush twice, and I am also a fan of Fates Warning)

So many people seem to be immune to the sonic profundity of Progressive Rock., ‘‘tis a sad world we live in, I don’t any longer know people who appreciate Prog....Yes, my social life is nonexistent.

The only friends I have are my mother and my IPad, except when this machine is giving me grief about having too much music loaded on it.
