A Cursive Memory got its start when Colin Baylen and Shaun Profeta met at a birthday party. Shaun is the brother of Hellogoodbye drummer Chris Profeta. Mark Borst-Smith and Brian Bolen soon joined, forming a band originally called The Vagrants. At first, the band played only covers of some of their favorite bands, such as blink-182 and Jimmy Eat World, but soon started writing their own music. Drummer Dillan Wheeler climbed onboard to replace the departing Boylen, and A Cursive Memory signed with Vagrant Records before issuing their full-length debut, Changes, in February 2008.
The band debuted with a music video for their song "Everything" on the social networking website MySpace.

A Cursive Memory Lyrics

I'm told to hurry up and wait
And every time that I miss a break
It's just my luck, it's just my luck
As I hold hands with hope
The fate lies right in front of me
My eyes have proven to show
So don't say, don't say
So don't say, don't say
Don't say, don't say
We'll catch a break
When things start heading south
You can watch her tear me down
And all that time you didn't show up
La, la, ta, ta, ta
Every time that you disappear
I'd hope for a whole new better year
And all that time you didn't show up
It's just my luck, it's just my luck
As I hold hands with hope
Fate lies right in front of me
My eyes have proven to show
That hope is hope and fate is destiny
So don't say, don't say
So don't say, don't say
Don't say, don't say
We'll catch a break
When things start heading south
Yeah, you can watch her tear me down
And all that time you didn't show up
La, la, ta, ta, ta
I'm waiting, I'm waiting
I'm waiting, anticipating
I'm waiting, anticipating
I'm waiting, anticipating
I'm waiting, anticipating
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
When things start heading south
And you can watch her tear me down
And all that time you didn't show up
La, la, ta, ta, ta
It's just my luck
The lyrics to A Cursive Memory’s song South speak of feeling frustrated with one’s circumstances as the singer expresses a strong desire to move forward, but feels held back. The first verse speaks of trying to take steps towards a goal, but constantly being told to wait. When opportunities are missed, the singer feels like it's just bad luck. However, the chorus brings in hope as the singer sees fate as something that will ultimately work out, as long as they hold onto hope. Despite hurdles, the hope for a “break” remains.
The second verse seems to deal with a person who has let the singer down in the past, leaving them feeling unsupported. The line “Every time that you disappear, I’d hope for a whole new better year” shows the singer longing for someone to be there for them. However, the chorus reassures that hope victories over fate and the singer wants to keep waiting and anticipating.
Overall, the lyrics convey the idea of coming to terms with what life throws at you, but not losing hope along the way. Circumstances can sometimes lead to feelings of disappointment, but in the end, hope will prevail.

Every step that I want to take
Whenever I try to move forward
I'm told to hurry up and wait
I'm always told to wait and be patient
And every time that I miss a break
Whenever I lose an opportunity
It's just my luck, it's just my luck
It's just unfortunate, as usual
As I hold hands with hope
As I try to be optimistic
The fate lies right in front of me
I know my destiny is within reach
My eyes have proven to show
My experiences have taught me that
That hope is hope and fate is destiny
There's a difference between optimism and fate
So don't say, don't say
Please don't tell me
We'll catch a break
Things will get better
When things start heading south
When everything goes wrong
You can watch her tear me down
I'll be struggling
And all that time you didn't show up
When you weren't there to help me out
La, la, ta, ta, ta
I don't even know what to say
Every time that you disappear
Whenever you're not around
I'd hope for a whole new better year
I hope things will improve drastically
It's just my luck, it's just my luck
Unfortunately, nothing seems to work out for me
I'm waiting, I'm waiting
I'm being patient
I'm waiting, anticipating
I'm waiting with excitement
Don't say, we don't say, we don't say
Let's avoid negativity
When things start heading south
When everything goes wrong
And you can watch her tear me down
I'll be struggling
And all that time you didn't show up
When you weren't there to help me out
La, la, ta, ta, ta
I don't even know what to say
It's just my luck
It's just unfortunate, as usual
