The Beacon
A Fine Frenzy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You say your time has come
You're tire of waking up
Don't be obscene,
I can't conceive of
Living without you
You say you drag me down
No one should want you now
I start to cry,
You kiss my eyes and say
I'm not allowed to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights
That single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

You were a child forgot
Lessons of love untaught
Now no embrace can quite replace
The one that never found you
I was raised tenderly

All that was taught to me
I will apply,
Your parents tried
But they didn't know how to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights
That single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

Let me stand by you
The honor is mine
Let me stand by you
Loneliest light
Loneliest light
Loneliest light

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights

A single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

Overall Meaning

The song “The Beacon” by A Fine Frenzy opens up with a conversation between two people where one of them is claiming that their time has come and they are tired of waking up. The singer responds that living without them is unimaginable and that they cannot conceive living without the other person. The other person thinks they drag the singer down and no one should want them now. The singer is moved to tears, but the other person kisses their eyes and tells them that they are not allowed to. The second part of the song talks about a child who was forgotten and never taught the lessons of love as they grew up. The singer was raised differently and takes what they have learned to apply it to the relationship they are currently in. The singer wants to stand by the other person even if they are the loneliest light and it must get lonely there sometimes.

Through the lyrics of “The Beacon”, the singer is trying to convey the message of unconditional love and support for someone who might not love themselves or is feeling low. They try to comfort the other person by kissing their tears away and standing by them. The metaphor of a burning beacon is used to describe the other person and their place in the singer’s life. The beacon is a powerful symbol of hope and provides guidance in the darkness. The singer is willing to stand by the other person even if it means standing alone, like the beacon that must get lonely sometimes.

@blackbirdfly0128 i suffer from depression too, and this song is the most beautiful and sad thing to me. at the same time i feel understood, and more and more alone for not having anyone to metaphorically sing this to me. i understand you so much. and even though i do not know you, i feel like i could sing it to you and mean it, you know? xo
