And the dreaming over tea
God only knows
Was it so long ago
Your tried to let me know
You'd seen this face
Somewhere before
That you can call him
Heartache
Yes, you can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back
Once there was spring inside his eyes
Now there's only autumn winds
And sad grey skies
And I'm such a fool
To think that I
Could change the rules
I'd seen his face
Somewhere before
Now I know for sure
That you can call him
Heartache
You can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back
And you can call him
Heartache
Yes, you can call him that
You can call him
Heartache
You'll never take it back
You've seen his face
Somewhere before
Now you know for sure
In "Heartache," A Girl Called Eddy delivers a poignant reflection on heartbreak and loss. The song begins with a nostalgic reminiscence of crass band mornings and dreaming over tea - moments that seem to belong to an earlier time. The lyrics suggest that the singer has experienced a profound change since then, one that has left her with a feeling of deep pain and longing. The repeated reference to "his face" suggests that the heartache the singer is experiencing is the result of a failed relationship. Despite this, there is an air of resignation in the lyrics, a sense that the singer accepts that there is nothing to be done but to name and acknowledge the pain of her situation. The final lines of the song, "You've seen his face somewhere before, now you know for sure," suggest a finality to the singer's realization, a sense that she has come to terms with her heartache and is ready to move on.
Overall, "Heartache" is a beautifully melancholy track that captures the universal experience of grief and loss. The song is characterized by its slow, mournful melody and the singer's haunting vocals, both of which perfectly capture the mood and emotion of the lyrics.
