Born
A Life Set Apart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And when I saw your eyes, I knew that they were mine
And when I saw your face, I knew that you would shine
Holding your head I held the world tonight
Wiping your tears, I prayed you'd be just fine
Just fine, now

But you were all we had
The glue between the cracks
From a shattered aftermath
A story of the past
This was not really yours to bear
And questions filled the air
And through the storm, just keep on holding on

Oh my dear, I'm not the man you want
And oh my dear, I'm falling out of love
And please don't fall apart
This is just the start
And please don't fall apart
Keep holding on

We took a look at the lies to realize we couldn't deny life
and laugh at old lies and nobody can, nobody will see
all the fights my mom and I fought inside those nights
Let truth be truth, but can we really ever choose?
Swarmed with fears we lost sight of you, 'til we knew to look on,
beyond, the wrong, the??? for all too long you needed someone to be strong to belong
Our selfishness grew from helplessness, in a fight to be selfless you didn't need this or any part of it
We wanted you to grow but we had less than the mess to show for all to know
The facts were here, but it seemed so unclear, running from the truth and I hoped it would all clear the fear
Feel alone with all the unknown
How can I ever be your one, your home?

But you were all we had
The glue between the cracks
From a shattered aftermath
A story of the past
This was not really yours to bear
And questions filled the air
And through the storm, just keep on holding on

Oh my dear, I'm not the man you want
And oh my dear, I'm falling out of love
And please don't fall apart
This is just the start
And please don't fall apart
Keep holding on

We were fighting, holding on for love
In a dream we knew, not for long
We stumbled on and on, but you were more than we could choose

We were fighting, holding on for love
In a dream we knew, not for long
We stumbled on and on, but you were more than we could choose

In you we saw a love we didn't know

And in you, a future we couldn't hold
And we knew we couldn't be everything you need

Overall Meaning

The song "Born" by A Life Set Apart is a powerful ballad that tells the story of a young child born into a shattered aftermath of a past that they did not choose. The lyrics paint a picture of a child who is loved deeply by their parents, but who is forced to bear the weight of their parents' mistakes and struggles. The first verse describes the deep bond between the child and their parent, as the parent holds their child and wipes away their tears. However, the second verse switches to a more somber tone as the parent admits that they are not the perfect partner or parent and that they are falling out of love. The chorus is a plea for the child not to fall apart, for this is just the beginning of their journey.

The lyrics in the third verse reveal the parent's struggle to come to terms with their past mistakes and their fear of not being able to provide for their child. They express that they have lost sight of the child, and they hope to be able to find a way to be the strength and support that their child needs. The final chorus echoes the same plea for the child to hold on as the parent continues to fight for their love.

Overall, "Born" is a powerful message that highlights the struggles that parents face in providing for their children when their own past is filled with pain and regret. It emphasizes the importance of holding on to hope and perseverance, even in the darkest of times.

Thank you for bringing some modern Christian music to the public! This is along the lines of what teens need these days, and I pray that radio stations take note and modernize their playlists. Youth can't always connect with Jeremy Camp style "Worship" music!!

I really like the opening scene to this video of the band walking into the abandoned small town theater to perform in the dirt and grunginess. Nice visual!! I would have loved to see this same theatre (the Pix theatre in Nampa) featured at the video outtro as the band ends the song and walks out the back door into the alley and walks away down the alley - maybe to a silent crowd of adoring fans cheering silently.
