On January 9th of 2011, A Lot Like Birds announced that Kurt Travis (Ex of Dance Gavin Dance, Five Minute Ride, No Not Constant, and O! the Joy) would be the new singer and second front-man, alongside Cory Lockwood. With their acclaimed addition, the band quickly signed to Doghouse Records (All American Rejects, Say Anything, The Get Up Kids) and acquired The Artery Foundation (Asking Alexandria, Dance Gavin Dance, Alesana) as management.
Their debut album Plan B was the brainchild of the band’s guitarist/original vocalist Michael Franzino, who invited several talented musicians in the Sacramento scene (Including various orchestral instrumentalists and a female vocalist) to perform on the record. They spent their first year of existence diligently perfecting their live set, building their fan base, and most recently, writing their sophomore album as a collaborative effort. Their live set is known for setting deep moods that swing from thoughtful, emotional build-ups to body-moving, epic climaxes.
After signing both deals, they entered Interlace Audio Recording Studio with producer / engineer Kris Crummet (Closure In Moscow, Fear Before, Dance Gavin Dance) to record their second full length, Conversation Piece.
After it's release in the fall of 2011, Conversation Piece received praise and they were called "one of post-hardcore’s most important new bands and one of the few capable of saving the scene." (-MindEqualsBlown.net).
A Lot Like Birds spent all of 2012 on the road, taking their new album and frenzied live antics to the masses. The positive reception to their high energy performances lead to a one month tour of Europe in February 2013. The band's growing fan base fueled powerful performances in London, Paris, Vienna, Budapest and 19 other cities.
ALLB Released their 2nd LP 'No Place' with Equal Vision Records on October 29th, 2013.
ALLB released their 3rd LP 'DIVISI' with Equal Vision Records on May 5th, 2017.
On February 17, 2018, A Lot Like Birds announced their break-up.

You told me to smile because at least we're both alive
and I smiled just for you, and there's truth in what you said
But I can't clear the mantra, chanting, singing in my head
It tells me..
Life's a brittle bone - it says the meat of life is death
These are dashes on a timeline, we're just segments of a dash
Hardly present now, not built to last
All the magic, every moment, dies and turns into the past
To be forgotten as the line expands..
Myotic Tesseract
Okay but you’re lying if you say that the last lyrics (“Don’t we all arrive...”) don’t give you chills

That piano lead starting at :40 is literally fucking perfect. One of the nicest melodies they've ever written and thats saying a WHOLE lot.

Brilliant work of art. The stories, the music, the themes, all of it. Just so good.

I said I'd give this album something of a fair listen and I have so now comes the time to give my two cents, but I'm not going to be like those people who just blatantly say this sucks so at least indulge me. To borrow a phrase from many who have said it when I listen to DIVISI it does make me think "Not like a lot like birds." but that's because it's true, it is very different from the style we've come to love, as is the EP..unless you define ALLB by the EP's sound then in that case I'm sorry you have to go through two drastic changes. My ultimate point is that it's not necessarily bad, as that is pretty much subjective as with all music, but ultimately it is a change to what ALLB has coined as their signature sound. In the Kurt Travis days their music sounded chaotic and cathartic, like being on the precipice of inner turmoil and just letting it all out. If you need examples of what I mean see the slow buildup from Cory in Vanity's fair, the end of tantrum, the end of no nurture, the masterpiece that is shaking of the frame I mean...need I say more? I don't attribute this new sound to just Kurt's departure but also the restraint of unclean vocals and direction in production and well..direction. DIVISI is a lot more gentle and sincere in the way it conveys it's emotion, if that makes any sense. It's not for everyone but it's the way it has to be, the band felt they needed a change to move forward and I can't fault them for that. But for everyone who was a fan before I think I can safely say that we'll always listen to their older tracks in nostalgia and have a special place (No Place?) in our hearts for them. Even though I may not entirely dig the new album I still wish the best in this band's endeavors and hope they continue doing what they love, as nothing is more fulfilling. And for all the cats that love the new sound keep on rockin' it and don't mind those of us dwelling in the past.

I don't know about all that but... Kurt needs to come back because this band needs the chaotic help of its original self.
