Atlas
A Love Like Pi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Where, are the hungry hands?
This is a call
I'm outside your door
Give me the bride
I have paid my dues
I can wait no more, yeah
Oh, all my branches bend
Where, are the hungry hands?
Oh, what do I do when my gifts
All become to heavy to lift?
This is a call
We're outside your door
Give us the prize
We can wait no more
And the atlas in us
Has worked so hard to say
That we do what we do
And believe it is true
Yeah, it's true
I said, this is a war
The lyrics of "Atlas" by A Love Like Pi speak of a desperate yearning for recognition and validation. The opening lines, "Oh, all my branches bend / Where, are the hungry hands?" capture a sense of vulnerability and reaching out for assistance. The singer is calling out to someone or something, pleading for acknowledgment and affirmation. This feeling builds throughout the song with the repeated refrain of "This is a call / We're outside your door / Give me/us the prize / I/We can wait no more." The singer is fired up and ready to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs.
The bridge of the song introduces the idea of Atlas, the Greek god who held up the world on his shoulders. The singer references "the atlas in us," suggesting that they too have been carrying a heavy weight and working tirelessly to make their mark. They declare that they "do what we do / And believe it is true," affirming their commitment and dedication to their craft. The final line of the bridge, "I said, this is a war," reinforces the sense of urgency and determination in the singer's voice. This isn't just a plea for acknowledgement - it's a battle cry.
Overall, "Atlas" is a powerful, emotionally charged song about the struggle for recognition and self-validation. The imagery of bending branches and hungry hands, combined with the urgent, repeated refrain, creates a sense of desperation and longing. The idea of Atlas and the weight he carried adds a mythic element, elevating the singer's struggle to something timeless and universal.

Thank you, thank you!!!
I remember in high school I found a ton of my favorite songs through purevolume .com and this was one of the underground bands I fell madly in love with their sounds and wish they got the recognition they deserved. ♥♥♥

It's hard to find this song when you forget the band/song name, but I still put the effort into finding it around a decade or more later. It's so good & the intro is perfection. Memorable af. Omg I forget about the cool, futuristic outro. Intriguing & poetic. Such a cool sound, I'll always revisit.
