What She Wants
A R I Z O N A Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She likes the boys who can dance, and she likes musicians
Signed pictures of 'em all, hanging there by her bedroom shelf
She just wants to be like the girls on the television
'Cause no one ever told her, it was okay to love yourself

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Be still, beating heart
'Cause this is her show
And you'll never be the star

'Cause she falls in love every night
Don't even know your name
And no, it's fine
You know and then we cross by her eyes
It's not her fault that she wants what she wants, yeah
She falls in love every night
And she don't even know what love is like
She been dancing in the dark throughout her life
It's not her fault that she wants what she wants, yeah

She sings her favorite songs, does her makeup in the bathroom
She dances in the mirror, lays her dresses out on the bed
She'll leave her lipstick on you like a tattoo
So when you try to wash it off, you'll remember that you can't forget

Oh-oh-oh-oh
Be still, beating heart, oh
'Cause this is her show
And you'll never be the star

'Cause she falls in love every night
Don't even know your name
And no, it's fine
You know and then we cross by her eyes
It's not her fault that she wants what she wants, yeah
She falls in love every night
But she don't even know what love is like
She been dancing in the dark throughout her life
It's not her fault that she wants what she wants, yeah

Ho! Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, woah, oh
It's not her fault that she wants what she wants, yeah

It's not her fault that she wants what she wants

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to A R I Z O N A's song "What She Wants" touch upon themes of self-image, longing, and the desire for love and validation. The song describes a young woman who is enamored with the glamorous portrayal of girls on television and aspires to be like them. However, she has never been given the message that it's acceptable to love and accept herself just as she is.

The opening lines reveal her preferences in romantic partners - she is drawn to boys who can dance and musicians. She collects signed pictures of these individuals and displays them proudly on her bedroom shelf, idolizing them. The lyrics suggest that she longs for their attention and validation, but ultimately realizes that she may never be the star of their lives.

The chorus highlights her tendency to fall in love easily, even not knowing the names of the individuals who capture her interest. The lyrics imply that she is aware of her behavior and the fleeting nature of these infatuations. The repetition of "It's not her fault that she wants what she wants" emphasizes that her desires are valid and should not be judged. The song portrays her as someone who has been dancing in the dark throughout her life, seeking love and fulfillment.

Overall, "What She Wants" is a poignant exploration of the struggles faced by individuals who seek validation and love outside of themselves. It sheds light on societal pressures to conform to certain ideals and the impact this can have on self-esteem and relationships.

It was almost 2 years ago. Went downtown to just see them play. Stood in line to get tickets to only find out that it was SOLD OUT!!! They were opening for someone else that I didn’t care if I seen them are not. I just wanted to see A R I O Z N A perform. Went to the bar next door to soak my sorrows of sadness. Who is sitting two tables away from me, A R I O Z N A was. I waited until they paid for their meal and then I proceeded to walk up to them and chat with them. Told them I only came to see them but the show was sold out. They gave me 2 of their tickets. After the show I had a few beers with them. Seen them again about a year later and they remembered me. What a great group of guys. They are my #2 fav band
