A Scent Like Wolves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Seize my regrets from a purple rose
Petal by petal, as my mind runs wild
Nail this casket shut before my feelings can alienate
Listen up, step aside, it's our time to shine
We went to hell and back in record time
If you pour these shots then we'll be fine
These dreams can shatter like glass
This hope can melt like ice
But now my heart's a stone and my only vice
My only, my only, my only vice
There are many things that people will regret in life
I still give no fucks
These things around me won't affect me
I'll never give up
Fuck yeah!
It's time to wake this party the fuck up!
This is a time to live and love life
I will never dwell on my regrets
Always living in the moment, so I'll never regret another second
If you catch my flow, you can be my lucky 7
8, 9 shots later and it's not even 11
Tonight's the night
To throw regrets away
My only vice
The lyrics of A Scent Like Wolves's song "Step 4" convey a sense of defiance and determination in the face of regret and criticism. The opening lines, "Seize my regrets from a purple rose, Petal by petal, as my mind runs wild, Nail this casket shut before my feelings can alienate," suggest a desire to let go of past mistakes and prevent them from causing further damage or isolation.
The next verse, "Listen up, step aside, it's our time to shine, We went to hell and back in record time, Just the critics give us a piece of mind, If you pour these shots then we'll be fine," reflects a rebellious attitude towards those who doubt or criticize them. It's a call to assert themselves and prove their worth, with the support of their friends and a celebratory atmosphere.
The following lines, "These dreams can shatter like glass, This hope can melt like ice, But now my heart's a stone and my only vice," convey a sense of resilience. Despite the potential fragility of dreams and the transient nature of hope, the singer's heart has hardened, becoming a metaphorical stone. The phrase "my only vice" suggests that they are embracing their determination, even if it may be seen negatively by others.
As the song progresses, the lyrics emphasize that they won't be affected by the things around them and that they will continue to live without regrets. "There are many things that people will regret in life, I still give no fucks, These things around me won't affect me, I'll never give up," demonstrates a refusal to be burdened by regrets or influenced by external factors. They are resolute in their decision to live in the present moment and not waste any more time dwelling on the past.
The closing lines of the song, "Fuck yeah! It's time to wake this party the fuck up! This is a time to live and love life, I will never dwell on my regrets, Always living in the moment, so I'll never regret another second, If you catch my flow, you can be my lucky 7, 8, 9 shots later and it's not even 11, Tonight's the night, To throw regrets away, My only vice," encapsulate the overall message of the song. It's an invitation to embrace life fully, to let go of regrets, and to celebrate the present moment without fear of the consequences. The phrase "My only vice" serves as a reminder that their determination and refusal to dwell on regrets is their only weakness or indulgence.
