The two became good friends after meeting in a local music store back in 2003 in their hometown of Newberry, SC. With a mutual admiration for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and a slew of other classic rock records, it wasn't before long the first semblance of what is now A Thousand Horses started taking shape. Having cut their teeth in the southern rock club circuit, Michael and Bill never let an empty room slow them down. This is a band founded upon the collective love of the creative process. "Mission statements are for high schools and politicians - we're a rock n roll band" explained Michael when asked about his goals for A Thousand Horses.
Fast forward to 2010 - After several lineup changes over the years, Michael and Bill have rounded out the band with Bill's cousin Graham DeLoach (22) on bass, Zach Brown (24) on guitar and Shane Lenzen (24) on drums.

Sunday Morning
A Thousand Horses Lyrics

Neither one she has read
Though every word speaks truth and revival
All she sees is no return address
She was born on a Sunday morning
With angels all around
She was born on a Sunday morning
Love's got a way of leavin' and sometimes too fast
And honey, you're too young to understand
Ya got his same blue eyes, the way he smiled and his last name
Some things don't always work out how ya plan
But you should know
You were born on a Sunday morning
With angels all around
You were born on a Sunday morning
Singin' the sweetest sound
And she needs to find forgiveness, ah yeah
Know why he ain't around
There's a letter in a Bible
That can free her now
Oh save her now
'Cause you were born on a Sunday morning
With angels all around
You were born on a Sunday morning
Singin' the sweetest sound
She was born on a Sunday morning
With angels all around
She was born on a Sunday morning
Singin' the sweetest sound
The lyrics of A Thousand Horses's "Sunday Morning" tell a story of a young woman struggling to come to terms with the absence of her father. The first verse describes a letter that she has never read, but which contains words of truth and revival. Despite this, she cannot bring herself to read it because it has no return address, leaving her uncertain of its purpose. The chorus reminds her of her own birth on a Sunday morning, a time when the angels were said to be present. She is reminded that she too is a child of God and has a purpose beyond the absence of her father. The second verse then speaks directly of her father, and the fact that love sometimes leaves too fast. She is too young to understand the complexities of his departure, but she sees parts of him in herself, and she learns that not everything works out the way it is planned. In the end, the chorus returns, circling back to the woman's own birth and the hope and promise it brings. The final lines call for forgiveness and for the release of the pain that she carries.
"Sunday Morning" is a deeply personal song for Michael Hobby, the lead singer of A Thousand Horses. He wrote the song about his own experience growing up without a father. He has said that he hopes the song will speak to anyone who has experienced the pain of loss and the longing for connection. The song was released in 2017 as a single from their album Bridges.
