Overpass
A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

it seems these wrists are made of concrete
does this make sense
or should I repeat myself again?
a little more clearly
all this time I have wasted
making up a reality
you'd think I'd get it by now
you think it would sink in somehow
just waiting for anything at all to come along
reassuring the faults of what I've done
I don't like my smile
seems that everything around me is growing fast

accepting is the hardest part
patches of purple and yellow and my watery eyes

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Overpass" by A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies details the struggles of the singer who seems to be struggling with accepting the reality of their present life. The opening line, "it seems these wrists are made of concrete," is an expression of how stuck and immobile the singer feels. They are unable to move on from their current situation, which is probably difficult or painful. The following line, "does this make sense / or should I repeat myself again?" suggests a level of frustration with their inability to move on or understand their circumstances.

The singer has spent a lot of time trying to create a reality that they can deal with, but it seems like they haven't succeeded. The line "all this time I have wasted / making up a reality" talks about how the singer has invested a lot of time and energy trying to create an alternate reality where things are better, but ultimately that attempt has failed.

The last line of the song, "patches of purple and yellow and my watery eyes," suggests that the singer has been crying or emotionally distraught. The line "accepting is the hardest part" seems to suggest that the singer has accepted that they are stuck in their present reality, but it is difficult for them to come to terms with it.

I hope the person involved in the accident faces criminal charges if they were responsible for the accident. Many four-wheelers don't know how to safely drive around big trucks. My truck is governed at a slow speed, I'm extremely cautious and respectful, and even I deal with idiots cutting me off all the time. It's ridiculous how disrespectful and reckless four-wheelers can be while driving around semis.

So true

The semi was at fault, idjit.

My wife just sent me this. I was home in McKinney, dallas Texas when this happened. I'm an owner operator myself, on the road as we speak. Seeing this happened and especially on hwy 75 were people drive like if they were in a race track. Feel terrible for this driver. Never know what's gonna happen. Alot of 4 wheelers don't understand that these trucks weigh 80,000lbs or more depending on permit load, cannot stop on a dime or swerve like them. Breaks my heart seeing this.

It's irritating to see motorist's cutting off a semi tractor truck too closely, and nearly cause an accident. The lack of common sense of some motorist not thinking that the semi tractor truck is much heavier, or probably carrying a load which requires that semi tractor truck more time to stop than a average car? Give that semi tractor vehicle the respect it deserves, before you get yourself seriously injured or killed!

You are absolutely right bud.

That’s why I don’t swerve. They cut me off, they meet my grill guard

I’m not killings myself or any innocent people for a lousy driver
