Ain't No Way
Aaron Neville Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If you won't let me
It ain't no way for me
To give you all you need
If you won't let me give all of me
I know that a mans duty
Is to have and love a woman
Oh but how can I, how can I,
How can I give you all the things I can
If you're tying both of my hands
It ain't no way, it ain't no way,
Just ain't no way, ain't no way, baby
It ain't no way for me to love you
If you won't let me
Stop trying to be someone you're not
The hard cold truth is, woman,
You paid too much for what you got
And if you need me, baby,
Say, say you do,
Baby, I , baby, baby,
Don't you know that I need you
It ain't no way
I tell you that it ain't no way,
It ain't no way, it ain't no way baby,
Baby, baby, baby
Just ain't no way, sure ain't no way
It ain't no way for me to love you
If you won't let me
The Aaron Neville song "Ain't No Way" is a soulful ballad about unrequited love. The lyrics express the singer's frustration about not being able to express his feelings to the woman he loves because she won't let him. The first verse set the tone for the song as Neville kept repeating "it ain't no way" implying that he can't love the woman he desires because she won't allow him. In the second verse, he acknowledges that it is a man's duty to love and have a woman, but it's a dilemma when there are inherent limitations. He wants to give her all he has, but she is not giving him the freedom to do so, tying his hands.
The third verse is an appeal to the woman to stop pretending to be someone she's not and acknowledge the truth about her situation. She is paying too much for what she got, and if she needed him, then she should say so, because he also needs her. The song ends with the refrain, "it ain't no way," emphasizing the singer's frustration and emphasizing that he can't give his love if it's not reciprocated. The song's message is poignant and illustrates the pain of being in love with someone who can't or won't love you back.
