Hercules
Aaron Neville Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All's in fear is fear itself
Check out your own backyard before you check out someone else
Railroad track in my neighborhood
Ain't no trains around that part, just ain't no good

Wanna know, what's going down
And the pimp on the corner looks like the sharpest cat in town
Jungle rule, can't be no fool
Might get caught by the hook of a crook, call time for cool

Look out jay, what you say, what you carryin' brother
I hope you're clean 'cause the man is mean, oh, don't come another further
We all know the answer will come out in time
I might even carry some of your load, right along with mine

Thank you ma'am, mister, please
'Cause I must be Hercules
I must be Hercules

Like a bird, on the wing
I just wanna be free enough to do my thing
I can feel the pressure from every side
If you're not gonna help, don't hurt, just pass me by

No

Hercules
I must be Hercules

Jungle rule, can't be no fool
Devil is on the loose, no cool
Got your feet in the sand
Got to be down with the cats that around and still got the face the man

Talk about me if you please but I must be Hercules
Hercules
I must be Hercules

Duckin' rocks, catchin' stones
Mootin' how can I survive what's going on
Big steely borrow
Somehow I've got to make it till tomorrow

Can't depend on no one else
Comin' up the hard way I've got to save myself

Must be Hercules
I must be Hercules

Talk about me if you please
I must be Hercules

Overall Meaning

Aaron Neville's song "Hercules" talks about the need to stand up for oneself in the face of adversity. The lyrics suggest that fear is often the greatest obstacle to overcome and that one must look within themselves before casting judgment on others. The metaphorical railroad track in the singer's neighborhood represents the danger lurking around every corner, and the need to be constantly alert and aware of one's surroundings. The reference to the "pimp on the corner" highlights the image of someone who appears to be running the show, but in reality, is just another victim of the struggles and hardships of life. The singer urges listeners to be wise, cautious, and vigilant in navigating their way through these dangerous times.

Soy un diseñador de Hip-Hop;amo la fotografía,
me gusta el Jazz,el fútbol, el cine y la poesía...
No me gusta rapear, lo hago por cortesía,
si supiera hacer beats, Little Supa' no existiría.

Para ese entonces ya estaré en Francia o en Argentina;
canoso y con dos hijos de alguna mujer Latina.

Soy un amante del buen gusto,
mujeres de gran busto, bombas y tags, con rusto
he llevado mi música,de New York hasta el Cuzco,
antes eran insultos, ahora me rinden culto.

Hago nada más featurings con los panas,
trabajo fines de semana y cuando me da la gana,
lo hago para cubrir los gastos de mi mamá
y el resto lo dejo para las salidas con las damas.

¡Fuck that!

That man has a beautiful voice. I've never met him, but I know several members of his family here in New Orleans. Almost all of them are musicians. Some better known than other. Art, Aaron and Charmaine Neville are the ones I've heard of the most.
